I persoanlly just think it would be a cool, and pretty functional way to keep DJ's sets organized. And Like I said, if each DJ only gets one thread, then it'll give them some incentive to keep it updated, and maybe make it look cool, and personalize it as well.
To those who might say "oh noo, we'll have all these dj's pages cluttering everything up!" That wouldn't be an issue. Its not like djs are posting a new mix every day...and if they did, thats cool. Realistically, a mix would get posted, and in a week, the thread would fall to the later pages, until that DJ decided to post a new mix in the thread and bump it up.
Lets do it! :toothless |
Personally I like the idea of a NYTA mix sub-forum rather than a stickie up top. If such an area was created I actually prefer individual posts for mixes as well (or atleast the choice of doing so), only because I like to promote each mix as unique rather than just another on the pile. I really don't think there would be any more clutter since they would fall away eventually anyways - same as a single thread per DJ would.
For events that's definitely trickier.. I agree with Zack that it would be cool to see more of them in the main forum, but on the other hand I see Z's point that that's entirely subjective and could lead to problems..
One thing that has surprised me is that nobody has brought up the giant ASOT thread which seems to bend all our rules ;) Is it a roll call? Nope too early.. Event listing? Nope not really.. Discussion? umm maybe..? Perhaps this is the way to go then? An event listing in the sub-forum and a single "Discussion" thread allowed in the main that serves for talking, roll calls, and reviews? Just trying to throw out more ideas is all...
EDIT: Oh and I'm definitely all for bringing interviews and articles back, as well as general discussion directed to this community. Posting in the NY board is very different than posting in the main forums - they're really two different audiences entirely. I think now more than ever we're all starting to really recognize and respect that! |

What I have been doing is closing the discussion threads within the main forums after the official event is posted and re-routing members to the link to continue their discussion in that thread as I've done with the Marco V and Valentino Kanzayani threads and I will do the same with the ASOT thread once the event is posted.
It's obviously a big topics for discussion at the moment hence the many pages so me closing it abruptly without specificing an alternate place to post their comments will result in people opening further threads.
This also encourages people to visit threads in the event subforum.
The reason a thread cannot be opened now is because the selected date from the drop down calendar is still unavailable as of yet for the event sub-forum.

I would absolutely love that but again it's all up to Swamper. |

I think those are all sponsored / advertising spots. |

| All we really need is one sticky thread each for the mixes/local articles. |

| All I gotta say is the events section subforum is awesome. Also, I'd avoid stickies where possible. I think a dj mix subforum like the events subforum would be better.....just more organized. |

Thats actually a good idea! Not sure how easy it would be to get this pulled off though.
Im all for that or the one thread per DJ idea. I think a single topic of all the mixes would get a little bit buggy though.
oh and not to get off topic but that Brad Miller interview was sick. Very well done! |

euphoria, i don't know you but i've read all your posts and replies to these guys and all you have to say is 'let's wait for swamper'. you need to take this message which has clearly been communicated to you and make swamper understand what your people want and need. it is not a matter of 'waiting for swamper' it's a matter of you getting what your people want done and fast. :)
btw, i realize my post may come across very harsh but i don't mean it like that. entirely. |

Also on the top right side you can toggle whether you see event threads in the main forum. If I recall, I asked if you guys wanted it like that and most of you said no. If you want more event related discussion then that is one way to do it. |
^^ I'm surprised not one person has commented on what I said up there? That's the only logical change I can see to make to NYTA in the short term to help foster event-related discussion. It works great in the West Coast forum and that area has a lot of activity.
In terms of DJ mixes, it makes no sense to create a whole other sub-forum just for that purpose. A sticky with a link to your mix and/or relevant thread in the DJ promo section (like TOTA) will do.
Articles/Interviews for the most part should continue to be posted in Music Discussion. There are reasons for this, some which are logistical and some which are necessary to deter against promoter/promotion-related spam/thread bumping. |

The only bad part about moving it to the Music Discussion thread is that forum seems to be one big troll fest. So instead of good discussion you'd get in here it will either get troll responses in there or ignored. |
