If golfs a sport MMA is for sure a sport.

I would like to see someone explain how golfs a sport and MMA isn't. Please make us all laugh.

I stand by my statement. I win, case closed. MMA is in fact, a sport.

For those saying, it is 'easy' to legalize, have you actually looked into what goes into legalizing something like MMA? I have not seen any legislative evidence in this thread to suggest anybody here has looked it up, other wise they probably would have posted it.

I am going to assume that it is like legalizing anything, in that it takes a tonne of legal work, financial research, medical research, setting up a governing body...etc. So it will take a load of work to get it going, not 'just a couple of votes' (even votes take a tonne of work to set up in parliament).

In the broad scheme of things, I agree with Jer, that we do have more pressing issues which should use our limited government resources.

The funniest thing is that Jay missed the key word in his own posting of the headline, "priority". So that means, that legalizing MMA won't happen because of xyz, but it won't happen now because abc is more important.

I agree with what you're saying and I'm sure that legalization of MMA is not just a matter of issuing a new print of the criminal code. However, where does that sort of reasoning stop? Why must we put things on the back-burner just because politicians decide that its not as important as things we all are supposed to feel strongly about (economy, health care, *added for dramatic effect* TERRORISM). Do we always have to wait for good times to be able to be entertained or enjoy ourselves?

I still believe that the reason why McGuinty chooses to avoid altering the criminal code is because he is truly fearful of it. Quebec is still subject to the same criminal code, but there MMA is legal due to their interpretation of the code. I think that the current Ontario government believes that changing the interpretation of the criminal code pertaining to prizefighting will open some sort of floodgates for other sorts of legalizations.

But the bottom line in this issue is - despite the Ontario government's motives, it shouldn't be up to them to cast MMA aside, it should be a decision of the people (no matter what the cost may be).
