Guv All-Access Parties: On the decline? (pg. 3)
View this Thread in Original format
Endgame
I imagine that its a lot of work to coordinate door-staff and security for All Access events. Maybe the extra work and cost isn't worth it in the eyes of the management?

Why put extra work and extra staff on events when you can book guaranteed money in the likes of Guetta, AvB, etc. and keep it simple?

In terms of the massive roll calls of yesteryear, I think that its because as TOTA taste changes and evolves, everyone breaks off into small groups of party people. Back in 04-06 everyone's collective tastes were centered around the type of music offered at big Guv events, so that's where the TA's went.

my point is this thread has nothing to do with which club has more tota attendance AND tota is such a small population in the club world. i think the club scene would still thrive without the tota population.

I think the scene has changed SOOO much, and that's the biggest variable here...

I would argue that it's definitely more fragmented (genre wise) but to say it's "smaller" is a dangerous statement, you have Deadmau5, Tiesto and Guetta rocking stadiums... I also see a thriving techno/tech-house scene in this city, w/ a lot of (international headliner) variety on a weekly basis...

Which is what confuses me the most about this thread lol I think Gera said it best in the event thread, this years Decadence is likely the biggest/most expensive party Guv has ever put on... So how can we sit here and argue about their line-ups being "on the decline"...

either way discussion is on TOTA
so we are talking about how WE are attending certain parties less or how WE are missing Ultra Spins

so yeah..

The scene would definitely thrive without TOTA, but there would be something else to take it's place if it was not here.

TOTA's significance in the scene is not based on its proportion of the scene's population, it is based on setting/shaping trends. I know for certain that there are many, many people that read TA (outside of active users) who come on this board to see what the big parties are coming up, and it's the active users of TOTA who decide what those parties are by posting in event threads and roll calls.

I'm not saying that this is the case with all big parties, but it does apply to many parties. If that wasn't the case, promoters wouldn't spend so much time promoting their events here.

I think chinamons post was fairly clear.. TAs have ZERO pull on the state of the scene here in Toronto, especially on a large scale. So vola had a bigger roll call? sounds like a bunch of giddy kids posting over and over 10x a day? How does that refect the popularity of a party in # of people attending...

This is very true. However, I think the point I'm trying to make here is that it's a shame the Guv hasn't capitalized on that fragmentation, especially given the way their club is set up with so many rooms. If they had put a niche tech house or techno DJ in The Drink and a electro/mash-up DJ in the Gallery at Decadence, it would have been a great way for people to discover different genres, which would have helped each of those individual scenes thrive. This would benefit everybody.

Instead, The Guv opts for cheese and the lowest common denominator in order to avoid risk at all costs.
