How do your non-EDM listening friends react when you tell them that you listen to EDM?

I don't go around telling people "hey dood I listen to EDM"...but if the subject of music comes up in a conversation and they ask me what I listen to, and I mention EDM, I would say every 4 out of 5 people laugh.
And it really doesn't matter what genre I mention- house, prog-house, trance, techno, ambient, whatever...I could even mention the stuff woscar listens to...and they would laugh.
For some reason most people find the subject of EDM funny, and I can't figure it out. For the trolls on here, this has nothing to do with me or how I look or who I am (I've heard other people getting the same reactions too).
Is it because everyone thinks of "techno" as only Sandstorm? Or because of the fist-pumping and eye closing and all those other cracker habits? |

| They probably think it is all stupid repetitive talentless crap with an obnoxiously loud bass drum and a shelf life of thirty minutes, so how could anyone get into that without some serious drugs? |

Funny, over here 4 of 5 would say:"So, who doesn't?" even NON EDM listeners wouldn't laugh as they know many others who also listen EDM.
Does it mean 4 of 5 still live underneath a rock at your place? |

That's why I said earlier I think it has to do with Sandstorm being the only song they have ever heard or know about.
I bet people here couldn't even tell the difference between house and techno, or trance and ambient. They probably think it all sounds like Sandstorm (a ty song). |

Does this mean you don't understand cultural differences? |

I don't think it has as much to do with culture as you think.
Americans love that terrible electropop crap like Kesha and Lady Gaga, yet they wouldn't listen to straight-up electro. |
