too bad they narrative is so disappointing. why they used oprah winfrey talking down to us like children rather than david attenborough, the narrator of the planet earth series and the foremost authority on nature documentaries, is beyond me.

it's actually a widely held criticism. obviously the video footage is great, but the narration is like sitting in on a kindergarten class. quite annoying and distracting. hopefully they fix that garbage in the dvd.

...So now, the people who had no land have their own farms Things in the jungle might be uncomfortable, but at least they have planted their crops and can hope for a good harvest.

Their new home is likely to be on the edge of one of the big new roads, such as the Trans-Amazonian Highway. It's an impressive-sounding name. but really it's just a very long single-track dirt road. The farm is probably near one of the frontier towns that have sprung up to cater for the incomers. These towns look for all the world like the wild west towns in the cowboy films, with a general store, a saloon bar. a government land claim office and a few other hastily erected wooden shacks...

As long as you see it in HD, it's stunning. If you can do so with David Attenborough, it's the icing on an already delicious cake.

This sounds (very conspicuously, I might add) like the opinion of a person that does not know any better. The problem here is that most of us have already experience what a scientific documentary narrated by Attenborough is and we know that the original UK version includes him. Why settle for an infinitely inferior product?

I have not heard Oprah's narration so I cannot comment on that, but the Spanish version that is narrated by Juanes is atrocious. Somehow he got it into his head that he was reading from a children's fairy tale book. Truly horrendous.

Post of the thread, imo. I think I'll have a listen to that compilation tonight.

:haha:

I had no idea that was Oprah's voice. I was thinking during the show, "Who the is this ethnic girl & why is she narrating this?"

Carl Sagan would be perfect for this :o
