It's no surprise, really. Our country is one of the stupidest in the world. I saw part of this video called 2 Million Minutes in school, it's basically a view of what teenagers from the USA, India, and China are doing in high school (and their plans for after HS). The beginning is hilarious as it shows the Americans saying that they don't really know what to do after HS and then the Indian and Chinese kids have it all planned out. The American guy even says something like "I'm not sure what I want to do but I definitely don't want to sit in an office all day. Or maybe when I start. I don't know. I just know I'll get a job somewhere after college" and iirc he doesn't even know what college he's going to. Then the Indians and Chinese are talking about their plans for college and for life after school as well in a way that makes the American kids seem retarded. Like I mean actually mentally retarded.
I know that it has a lot to do with the fact that the kids in under developed countries really have no other choice but still, we could be doing much better.

How many of those Chinese and Indian kids' lives turned out precisely as they expected them to though? I really would not be terribly impressed either way.
I am by no means saying that the American mentality is necessarily superior nor am I trying to downplay being organized and having an educational plan at an early point in one's life - those are both excellent things. But humans are not insects, and overpopulated countries would do better to recognize this on a more fundamentally social level, if you ask me. Dear, that sounded American. .
