That 59% is not the whole picture. They were asked why they did not approve of the bill and 13% included in the 59% said the bill did not go far enough (was not liberal enough). Add to the 39% that support it and you have 53% in favor of health care reform in SOME form while only 46% do not support it (was too liberal).
This bill wasn't the best thing but its the right path. Fear mongering about being a "european" style government is about the stupidest I have ever heard as well because over all most western european countries have a considerably higher standard of living than the US. If you are against the standard of living in the US being higher than you should move to Iran or Myanmar and try that on for a while. |

Dude... what? I didn't think there was a need to produce them; poll numbers have been coming out every week for a year on health care. For at least the past 8 months, every poll has shown a majority of opposition. So 3 days after the vote, there's ONE poll that shows 49% support and every Obamacare supporter is clinging to that and waiving it around like it's the Rosetta Stone. It's just a statistical outlier... and I guarantee there will be a regression back to the mean soon. |

I've been around Europe. Define "higher standard of living", because I didn't see it. Not that it's bad at all, but here is much newer and nicer (unless we're talking about NYC). Everything is smaller; cars, apartments, shoddy plumbing... and I've been to some pretty sweet places over there. |

Also Kevin, Americans are stupid. They do not know what they need. I am sorry but if you want to save this country, and you are looking at it AS the country, not yourself (as in you are being patriotic and assuring american dominance in the world, not being a selfish ) then you will need to realize that democracy doesn't work well most of the time. Making the decisions that Americans are too stupid to make on their own (how would they do that though, I mean they already elected these people) is for our own good.
Can you imagine the chaos we would have if the people in this country were given direct control over our future. We'd be ruined in a decade flat. Imagine what would have happened if we had allowed the nations citizens to act how ever they wanted after 9/11. We would have had nuclear war.
Americans are stupid and can not be trusted to run their own future, thats why we elect people to make these hard decisions for us. Our racial and national identities have been diluted to the point where we are the genetic make up of the worst parts of all the other countries on the planet. Medocrity is now the American dream and we need a care taker state to keep our heads above the water.
Look at the Chinese, they are racially and nationally homogeneous people (for the most part, the part that controls their country) and they are out to get us. They will win eventually because we do not have the racial or national identity to continue to compete with more pure groups.
So let the care takers take care of you. You need it. We need it. Just lay back and take it, otherwise you will die a futile death in a fight that you will never win. |

Bigger cars, excess, consumerism, the death knell of the capitalist society that america has championed for 100 years. Your views of the standard are out dated and not in sync with the rest of the world. You are like the fat man who continues to want to run a 5 minute mile and eat a extra large pizza and milkshake at the same time. Its out dated and you will be eaten unless you submit.
