To me the most important absolute here is that, this track is ELECTRONIC, it is DANCE music, it is 4/4, and it is a CLUB production.
How does an EDM/Dance/Electronic track get to 160 MILLION views, and what does it say about EDM, in the context of economics and industry, impact on people and culture, and the overall interest and potential of the electronic music aeshetic.
Is this some sort of accident? Is it a mirage? Matrix? Because i've been told by some shady characters on the internet that people in general dont like dance music, and they dont like 4/4, and they dont like club music. So how does something like 160 Million Views happen? Which I have not seen for even Pop, Rock, Hip Hop, Country, any other genre.
And we really could do without whether you think it is a bad or good track. I want you to dig a bit deeper. |

For mind blowing reference...

Its the second most watched video of ALL TIME on youtube. A piece of electronic dance music has penetrated and interested the masses to a blasphemous extent. Lets try to explain and make sense of this. |

| Dance songs on youtube get so many hits because often times youtube is the only place to hear them. |

| I disagree with Cronodevir (long time no see btw). Something must gain a certain popularity otherwise it will not reach that amount of views. Either it works great as a viral or is is a somewhat popular track. |

| I think the lady gaga track is high because she is famous right now, but other than "pop" what hardcore, or goa, or prog trance track is sitting at several million views? And also, if you put every musical outlet there is together, i personally don't think "electronica" would be near the top, lil wayne and mily cyrus will see to that [then again, what is electronica?] |

Has the brainwashing of EDM = no interest from general public, really been this bad?
:wtf: x [size = 1000]
What a cheap way to belittle 160 MIllion views. Detach yourself from the thing that is sucking your brain dry or has enslaved you, and think for a second...we're talking about 160 Million Views. We're talking about the highest viewed piece of music in all the world is an 4/4 electronic dance piece of music.
And her success was purely accident and shoved down the industries throat by the people interested in the music. She is freaking scary and most say she is quite ugly for a pop star. Her first album did not even get a proper fully marketed release from the industry FFS.
Actually, let me use what you said to make a point. Esentially what you are saying is that it is the accessibilty that has allowed this amount of success to this track, so what you're saying is that if EDM is more accessible to more people, then more in the general public who normal consume pop music would give EDM a chance and become regular consumers. This is one of the point im trying to make here, and you kinda helped me make it. Besides the shady transparency of sales in digital distribution, the reason why EDM isnt a far larger genre is the lack of accessibilty of the music to potential consumers. And this is what the EDM industry, especially at the independent has to work on, and find a solution for. |

You indirectly and probably accidently said it earlier...accessibility. Not the genetic makeup of EDM, not the way it sounds, but the accessibility is what has been holding EDM back. And because of the internet, this layer holding back EDM is quitely fading away, and opening the doors for more mass success of the genre.
So, the economics and the cultural impact of the music is primiarly limited by the accessibility of the music to the consumer, and the fluidity and avenues of commerce, especially for independent labels. Given that the internet is the common denominator, even independent labels can see great success for good music, IF they can find a way to be more accessible to more potential consumers of the music, and the sales are being genuinely accounted for. The EDM market is steadily growing and has insane growth potential if we can solve this accessibility and transparency issue that continues to hold the potential of indie labels and the industry from growing. |

You are not going to find solutions to make niche music sell. Take this little tidbit for example, most of the successful music, all had lyrics. I may be wrong, but I don't ever recall, in the history of "TOP" boards, that a song with no lyrics was number 1, when put up against the rest of the music industry [not just its own genera]. You want electronica to get a little more fame, give it lyrics, some people do this, its called pop, but none of us here are trying to make pop famous, we want the house/trance/goa/jungles of the world to be famous, I think the only way to do that is by adding vocals, consequently, adding lyrics would remove the very thing that makes this music [for me atleast] appealing, there is no message.
At the same time, I like written word with a beat added to it. |

Only a fool would say EDM = Niche. Virtually any part of the world that has access to a computer or has a club, listens to EDM music.
Explain why you think EDM is a niche (something unique or rare).
I remember buillting this girl and telling her "EDM is a niche market...you dont make a lot of money. But the only reason I would tell her something like that, is because I dont want her to think I make much money. Why want a girl that wants you for money right? In reality, EDM being a niche market is quite ridiculous. And saying the EDM market is niche, does not say much about the interest or potential of the industry and music. It just says its been limited thus far, and if it becomes accessible to the consumer it would become even bigger industry. Because the actual accessbility and enjoyable construct of the music is already there, hence 160 Million views for an EDM track. |

Read the very first line. It doesnt matter what name is attached here. What the first line says is that the armins and pvds, even the average deep house or techno producer would be even bigger if they were actually accessible to more people. Because the genetic makeup the music itself (electronic dance 4/4 music) obviously has the interest of the masses, if the music is given a chance to be accessible to them. So what im saying here, its not the music itself, the genre, that turns people away from EDM, it is the accessibility and avenues of commerce that is holding back. This can be solved if we choose to solve it. |
