in the case of those living in a vegetative state highly burdensome to loved ones, i would consider such a suicide as being for the cause of "making the lives of others better off". but in the case of an emotionally unstable person, it's more of a desperate last-ditch attempt--caused by feeling hopelessly withdrawn from the world--to be be noticed and feel relevant to others once again. it's not truly the same as the former case.

I always used to say to myself why do people commit suicide wtf? Atleast try and rob a bank or something! Changed my mind completely when I had to go through depression at one point. You don't give a about robbing the bank because money or anything else wont help. Only thing that will help is time and thats not even certain, you could either get better or worse. The only comforting thing for me is I know that I wasn't the same 20, 15, 10 , 5 and 1 year ago so there is always a chance that things will change for the best.

and Jesus, as I recall it, was also given some leeway to get out of that situation.

not really.

I don't really think of taking/ending ones's own life in such a philosophical sense. I would classify anyone who consciously and accountably ends their own life (actively or passively) on a suicide continuum, on a scale of noble/sacrifice to fear/escape. People who are terminal or other similar scenarios would fall in the middle somewhere.

In short, it's all of those things. Also, cocks.

Good call, I completely forgot about euthanasia.

But, would you say it is right (or wrong) to commit suicide in any of those cases? Euthanasia included.

Well, it's been a while since I last read the bible, but didn't he just need to say he regretted saying the stuff he did or something like that?

No one thinks Galileo is a coward after he told the Church he had changed his mind, even though he didn't believe a single word he said and arguably muttered to himself after he was acquitted that "the Earth does move".

I think right and wrong are irrelevant. I honestly believe that's a judgment call that has no bearing. Suicide is an extremely personal choice...probably THE most personal choice.

P.S. I'm a fag and I love this song.

Herod and Pilates did not find any treason in what jesus had done. The jews wanted him dead at all costs, so they had false witnesses made false testimonies, wanted to riot if he wasn't sentenced to death. So due to political reasons and to avoid a jewish rebellion Pilate had him crucified. He did try to get Barabass or Jesus out, but the jews chose the murderer instead. That was that. In any case, just because he did not lie about his beliefs thus leading to him getting sentenced to death dosen't qualify as suicide in my opinion.

Exactly. I think that to fully understand and be compassionate towards a suicide victim, you need to have seriously contemplated it yourself.

6 years ago, suicide was an very real option for me. Not many people know but I tried twice to end my life. I felt trapped, pathetic and a burden to my family. I felt that no one would notice that I had gone. After going through that and changing my life around (new gf, job, education/location) I feel completely different.

The media almosts casts an illusion that to be normal you should wake up each morning with a smile on your face and not let things get you down, and this is what I was striving to achieve. I realised that to be happy, you needn't have a constant smile on your face - you can just be content with what you have and maybe once in a while look back on how much better you feel and how far you've come and smile :)
