i'd check to see if you're running wifi (switched to on) all the time, if it's on then your ipod is constantly searching and picking up wifi spots, that's not necessarily important when you're running in the park. I make it a habit to run wifi whenever i'm sitting bored somewhere like an airport to actually have to turn it on and when i'm done "wanting to be connected" i go back in and switch it off. |
Sorry, im not quite as tech savvy as you. Congratulations jackass, you just discovered another thing that the itouch should do well but doesn't. So if I don't want a dead battery I have to turn off wifi. Sucks for me since most "apps" require Internet connectivity. If only I were as tech savvy as you sir. |

To be fair, the iPhone has always been reported as inferior in battery life to many other smart phones but reviews in terms of battery life for the iPad seem pretty good so far. 11 hours of actual use by a 3rd party doesn't seem too bad at all to me. |

there's been a lot of tablets before the ipad as well, they just flopped hard... i think the thing is that full computers really don't work that well as tablets... if you're doing serious work you need a keyboard and mouse at least for the OSs around these days...
would be annoying as fk trying to write a serious essay on a tablet style PC... writing an email or typing a search into google is fine, but tablets at this stage would be annoying for serious work imo

not all games have to be epics... 'app' games are fun, not to be taken seriously, but they can be fun as time-wasters... NOVA is a pretty cool game though... it's a blatant ripoff of halo, but will be cool on the ipad :) |

| You're forgetting the fact that if Apple took the HP Slate and branded it as their own, or any other similar products, they would sell like hotcakes. Brand loyalty can be a huge thing and I would dare say a large portion of their launch sales were because of that, not because it's a good product. |

I know you, and a lot of people in here are apple-haters, which is totally fair enough, and you are completely right about the fact that they have an enormous following, no matter the product (i had an iriver something which had colour screen and then video playback almost 2 years before ipods did, but nobody knew what they were, i also had a HTC which revolutionised touch-screen phones before iphones came out, which nobody knew about either)... This doesn't mean that the product they are selling is automatically crap either though. The ipad is not trying to be a laptop, the HP is.
The ipad sucks as a replacement for a computer, as will the HP.
the ipad will be great for consumption of media, which is what it's designed for.
The HP probably won't, because it will be as clunky as a PC (this is probably WHY apple used the iphone OS instead of using OSX) but with nothing to sort out the problems of one (keyboard, mouse, monitor etc)
this is what i meant in my post about the HP pad.. and why i said there have been other PC tablets before that are mostly considered .
The brand is definitely an ENORMOUS boon for apple, but the ipad does look pretty good at what it's meant to do. If you have misconceptions and take it as something to get productive one then it'll be aweful, no question.
if you want it to be a laptop it would be complete , and you should just get a laptop imo... if you want something for consuming media (lets face it, this is 90% of the market: people who barely know how to use their computers at all) then it looks, and works pretty awesome...

Well "hater" is a bit extreme, I just don't like the way the company works, nor do I hate the legion of religious like zealots that support it without fail though that's not unique to Apple.
I own two iPods, I've looked at an iPhone with quite a lot of interest and I'm definitely interested in the iPad (long term) so my head is in the right space. I'm just more realistic and critical than many Apple fanboys. |
