Such a nice show, much improovements, sleek organisation. Bravo.
On a personnal note, I think sound could have been just a little bit louder, better, don't know, other then that, thumbs up, it's the event of the year where you see everyone's faces, all kinds.
Hope now Cox @ Bell... would be MASSIVE |
My ears are still ringing, i think it was loud enough :) |

| Smoke Meat, Poutine, Rippers, and a Ball! Bal en Blanc was incredible and I will never forget it! Its crazy to be back in Calgary now! I miss the beautiful people in Montreal, the crazy streets, the wild night life, and raves that change lives!! I found new love for Van Riel! Exactly what needs to be played at 10 in the morning OMG!! Markus Schulz gets better and better every time I see him!! He made me Black out when I was sober!! He just played such thumpin dirty beats!! And Sander Van Doorn just blew my friends and me away! Just out of my mine expirence!! I cant say much about Ferry. He was a buzz kill and forced me to take a break and eat some food lol... I literialy danced for nine hours at this event I never danced harder! Stayed from 12 to 12. It was so entertaining, fu*ked, sober whatever!? I cant believe that Boom Box!! So dope!! Just so sick with all the late night bangin beats being played WOW!!! I love how packed that place was but yet there was so much room to bust and get around and see Boom Box from all over!! It was such a great venue and its all I can talk about! I will be back next year!! Watch out Montreal and Merci!! |

Here is what Markus Schulz had to say
"Bal en Blanc, Montreal - Sunday April 4th (Technically Monday Morning!)
I wasn’t able to get too much rest when Trance Energy was over, because I was straight on a plane heading back across the Atlantic to one of my favorite cities in the world to play, Montreal. Easter Sunday in Montreal means only one thing - the incredible Bal en Blanc.
Last year’s event was very special for me. Not only was it my first appearance playing at the event, but I was also given the task of remixing the event theme, Dressed in White - a track which became one of the biggest GDJB World Tour anthems in 2009.
The passion and connection I have with the Montreal fans is very unique. They live for all night clubbing, and that is why Bal en Blanc runs until noon the next day. My set wouldn’t actually begin until 7am Eastern on the Monday morning, so I had to almost keep myself ticking over on the European time zone from Saturday.
Got checked in, had dinner and a sleep. Then I woke up at around 4am and started getting ready. The event was being broadcasted live on Afterhours FM, so I was able to listen to the first half of Ferry’s set on the laptop and get an idea of what the atmosphere was like. I was going to have to draw on all my experience of playing in Montreal in the past - between Stereo, Red Lite and last year’s BEB, in order to create the right mood for my set.
I knew that I had to generate an almost afterhours-like vibe for the set, but only in a massive arena full of 15,000 people. A very unique situation! The one thing I have learned over the years however is that the Montreal faithful love everything chuggy - they love their dark and moody basslines with a little bit of hard tech thrown in for good measure.
Just before 5:30am and I was ready for the occasion, and of course, Dressed in White. As I arrived inside the Palais des Congres, I saw a familiar friend from last year - the Godskitchen Boombox. I was just praying that it wasn’t going to be a high stage!
Many of you will have heard the set live or had the chance to listen to it throughout the week, and I have to say that it was one of the best gigs I have had for a very long time. Everything that I had planned and prepared was getting a response. I hadn’t played Dressed in White for a little while, but I dusted it off and gave it a spin in the early phase of the set. As the morning went on though, I really was able to take the crowd down the rabbit hole. There were tracks in my set that would get reactions in Montreal and you wouldn’t get those reactions in any other city in the world.
I’m so grateful to all of the Coldharbour Montreal peeps that stayed with me and enjoyed the journey until 10am. It was a pressure cooker, because I knew that with the time I was playing, if you lost the crowd at any time, they were going home and going to bed. Good friend Sied van Riel came on straight after and let rip on the hardcore for the final 2 hours.
I sincerely hope that I don’t have to wait too long for my next Bal en Blanc experience." |

| That is excellent stuff, Zraw, very insightful from Mr Markus but the real question is what do you think of my Blue Steele pout? |

Brian,
Did you break a strap in the house room during Morales set? Is that why you only have one strap in that pic? |

Excellent review Spin! As always :happy2: :happy2:
As for my review , not too much to add that hasn't already been posted on the thread. In summary:
This is my 5th BeB , so I already have a little experience under my belt now and have something to compare this one to....
I arrived around 2200h because I wanted to catch the start of Cesar's set... and for the first time in all my BeB experiences I had no line until the security check... which took 45min to pass through...
Finally got inside at 2315h , and Cesar was starting at 2330h ..so I was really happy to make it in time for his set!!!
Cesar Romaro - Fantastic!!! What a great way to start the night!!!
LMFAO - The worst thing I have ever seen at BeB!!! If the entire night was like that I would never go back....
Infected Mushroom - This may bring in some fringe crowd but OMG they are traumatizing!!! Me and all the girls with me would become violently ill if we had to listen to more then 5 mins of that!
SvD - Very good! Not as sharp as the other features of the night but I liked it!
Ferry Corsten - AMAZING! First time I heard this guy live and never a huge fan of the music I have heard from his production or live sets in the past...but WOW this guy's set was HOT! I really liked it ( and I'm not a big trance guy so that is saying something ).
Kaskade - Not my cup of tea but was nice! I liked some of his stuff...
Ana Paula - Very good! Technically a little off I think but track selection was awsome! Well done!
( I caught Spin hi 5'ing her when she was dancing with her lesbian friend... busted!!! LOL ;-) )
Marcus Shultz - Probably the best DJ of the night.... just spellbinding!!! They GOT to bring this guy back!
David Morales - Blew me away! I wasn't expecting alot from his set and had half a mind to leave before he started....but WOW it was incredible! He somehow managed to play what everyone wanted to hear... he deserves the status of being a living legend and definately stole the night from all the earlier DJs in the house room... what a set! wow!!!
So overall: great crowd....great vibe...great sound...professional event....If I were to describe the experience in one word: Magic!!!
I certainly got my $$$ worth as I think many others did too....and I would definately go back... just hope some stronger talent in the house room because this year the tech room was on fire!

Cesar "Bass" Romero further cemented his reputation in that house room. It was perhaps the most intense set of the party, pounding atitude-laiden tech house that immediately put this party into sexy drive. Cesar, if you're reading these reviews, a big up to you and hopefully we'll all be able to spell your name correctly in future reviews :p
David Morales satiated not only his following from Stereo but pretty much everyone who was on that dancefloor. saucy vocals, terrific energy and now I know why he is affectiontely called mo-mo by the Stereoheads who love him so much.
Ferry Corsten was great, and so was Markus and so was Sander, especially Sander. Lots of tech trance, lots of tracks that would do well in both rooms and lots of energy from those three. I needed this kind of hard, edgy, danceable trance in Montreal after the lousy Armin set I saw back in September :p
