5th April 2010 10:44 EST WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff.
To bad this release was known before it hit this forum
What really bothers me is how the United States views wikileaks as a national security risk.

If memory serves me correctly (which is not guaranteed these days), it was even included on the Australian Internet Filter list.
This is the same internet filter which is only being marketed as being needed to stop child pornography.

Watching this video again with the two Reuters news staffs in mind is a whole different experience. I know the helicopter had been getting shot earlier in the day from the east so the marines could've been over the edge from that, leaving them quick to jump to conclusions as seen with the van incident. Someone in a calm state(it's a given the marines were far from it) could see the van scenario as just good samaritans aiding the only surviving man in what seems to be the end of a shootout.
&Reminds me of a time where a friend of mine jumped to conclusions over a simple "I know you do..." text message. He ended up sending "Love you" to his GF but punched in 1 wrong number, so the opposite end replyed to his msg...and he was certain there was more to the text, thus leaving him pondering about what the ing "..." could mean. It was just ridiculous how he jumped to THAT sort of conclusion that quick, but he was stressed that day too.
it did look like a AK 47 & a RPG for a moment, but vut tis zis?
Unless these news staffs had customized camera guns like in Jackie Chan's Who Am I....I don't know what this guy is talking about....a nearby shooting?
^ I lol'd when I heard this..
It must have been a thrilling experience. Gunship Guy(& crew?) could have been one of those people who enlists for that type of like our buddy Caleb Gomez in Obama's War(http://www.vbs.tv/watch/vbs-news/obama-s-war). provides a bit of insight on why the Marines have to be suspicious about every moving object in a foreign land(Afghanastan)
OH?!?! Just stumbled upon this...
"Just 20 minutes after that serious and disturbing event, a hellfire missile attack is conducted on a nearby house that from the roof appears to be under construction. and that attack killed another *something* military records 6 people but potenially, maybe significantly more another 6"
He also goes on about the authenticity of the footage

Most people in this thread are trying to pass blame onto one of the parties. You cannot blame the journalists, they were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. You also cannot fully blame the pilots - in the theatre of war I am sure they have seen many things, where in the past an item with a shoulder strap was believed to be an innocent object but turned out to be a weapon. Granted, more time could have been taken to get a positive ID on the weapons and to determine the suspects intentions, but under pressure time is not a luxury.
War is Hell - and military ups much worse than this happen all the time that are not reported.
This is just a severe case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. RIP to those killed in the video - RIP to the 1,000s more that we don't know about.

You think you can say like "get a helmet because" your on ing line and you think no one can see you? If you said that around me and my buddies in a bar you would remeber the day you chose to make a joke about men and children getting gunned down by helicopters. Man I think the internet sucks sometimes. s like this make jokes about human lives being taken and no one says anything. Man up Cor and stop allowing the scourge of humankind to post in these things unchallenged. You all going to sit there and let this guy make jokes about some poor dad and son picking up probably their dead brother (a cameraman) after western forces (USA really) gun them down?
Seriously.... you ing suck
Edit:
Seriously.... you ing suck too
Name me one war where civilians were not killed.....it sucks but it happens.
You are right....I might think differently if it was my family but I would also get my family the hell out of here if there was any news suggesting there would be a war here.

It's no secret that American soldiers are trigger-happy. Hopefully this will be investigated and the truth will come out.

im commenting on just the 17 minute video...
obviously its the real deal and i can see why they'd want to cover this up.. no surprise there.
how they mistake an RPG in that group is beyond me, at one point it DOES sorta look like an AK but here's the thing. it's not like they're trying to hide or point at the heli. theyre simply walking and talking! they pose no obvious threat. what happened to the rules of engagement? its pretty much;
"hey look group of 'insurgents'"
"open fire!"
"k whose next on the docket!"
thats what it looks like and I find that pretty worrying. they ed up for sure.
their reactions and commentaries are depressing but are you surprised? have you seen the other youtubes where they're actually killing armed guys? it's way worse. if any one of those guys in this video had an RPG this video would be 5* rather then -10*
the other thing is i don't know how it is over there and what my mind set would be, maybe if i was in that heli I'd do the same thing, I have no idea. they're probably scared as and think everyone there is an enemy. still though i don't think this gives them the right to ignore basic instincts: people who are obviously not a threat, probably are not trying to kill you. moreso when you visually can't see any firearms.
the van is odd... then again I have no idea the customs or what not over there. maybe that was some local doctor for the region I have no idea. it does look super sketch when they are taking the bodies away but regardless they decimated it anyway. just turns out there's kids in there, wonderful :(
as ed up as this is, this kind of stuff probably happens all the time over there, it's sad and it blows, but what can you do.

To be fair, in whatever erratic state of mind they were in (claiming that Marines were being fired on) there's a part where the helicopter comes around the building and the photographer crouches down to a knee by a wall with just his telephoto lens sticking out. With a quick glance at the screen it could very well have been an honest mistake. I'd say the massive coverup is much worse than the actual incident.

Yeah...I'm damn glad this type of footage made its out there for the people to view, along with the whole child molestation + catholic/christian priest(s) getting exposed recently...people gotta H.E.A.L(Human.Education.Against.Lies) themselves

If we can imagine it, its probably already been done.
Imagine being in a foreign land with an immense amount of power, protection, and a group of soldiers. You're telling me you wouldn't go into a village and rape the women, kids, or maybe even the men?(lol peer pressure has its role I'm sure) These soldiers are bound to very little limits when in a foreign country. If they're a barbaric animal deep down, they're free to unleash it because lets be honest, who the 's going to care or hear about the deaths of villagers and locals.
Hearts and Minds is a great documentary which covers the American soldiers who fought in Vietnam, Vietnamese people, how propaganda about the Vietnamese people made the Americans act the way they did while in Vietnam, and how the Americans were the wrong in the war

It actually did look like the photographer had a RPG in hand while crouching around the corner. I'm assuming he was just trying to get a good shot of the helicopter?
