the f***** irony is that they were going to 70th Anniversary of Katyn massacre, where Soviet NKVD mass murdered ~ 22 thousands of Polish prisoners of war (primarily military officers), intellectuals and now again, in same place many most important people of Polish country died.
The Soviet Union continued to deny the massacres until 1990, when they finally acknowledged it. few days ago Polish media said that there were possibilities to better invesigate Katyn massacre because there were rumours that Russians will give us another documents (and the end they didnt but the relations were getting better and better) and overall it felt like this anniversary really result in something good. Our president (i wasnt a fan of him) fought for the Katyn truth. It's really an irony.
Polish TV says that even during World War II we didnt lose all commanders of armed forces in one day.
The plane was very old, probably it should have been replaced about 10-15 years ago. Instead they were just overhauling it over and over (the last one was, im not sure about it, few weeks ago).
yes, it's a disaster to lose in one day the president (and first lady), all commanders of armed forces, president of polish national bank, chief of national security, candidate for future president and all other. Watching this was like .... I felt like i'm watching sci-fi channel. There are about 60-74 days to elect the new President and at the moment I can't imagine how it will look.
yes, we shouldnt put (almost) all of the most important people into one plane :( |

ed up combination of irony and tragedy
My mom called me early this morning to tell me the news. The whole country will be in mourning all week.
Just yesterday I was talking to my dad about this and asking him to remind me of the Katyn massacre because I had forgotten the details of it that I learned in Polish school. He was telling me how significant the commemorative ceremony was at this time; that new truths are coming out and that Russia was opening the long closed doors of confession to some seriously heinous war crimes.
No one in my family supported Kaczynski very much - he was tugging Poland through the muds of a government that allowed over-involvement of the church in political affairs. Him and his brother (Jaroslaw - PM) seemed to be pulling a funny agenda, but no one can deny their dedication to pulling Poland out of economic woes that were plaguing the country long before the North American "collapse"
Polska Pogrążona w Załobie

Wieczne odpoczywanie
Racz im dać Panie
A swiatłość wiekuista
Niechaj im świeci
Na wieki wieków
Amen |

not only his brother but his FREAKING TWIN!! That's just absolutely epic. Never liked Kaczynski. He came off as extremely immature and just like any other politician his motives were always suspect. I agree with Jupiterone that Poland's still got a lot of growing up to do, but I guess that'll only happen as our generation gets older and begins to demand more out of their politicians.
I'm still baffled that so many important figures were on 1 plane. I guess it never crossed anybody's mind that a plane might crash? FFS  |

Poland needs young blood in the sejm (its government)
Right now (prior to this morning, that is) it's dominated by conservative middle-aged farts who are kept in power by millions of Babcia's and Dziadek's who vote them in because it's the right thing to do religiously, recalling what I mentioned earlier about the current government's (overly) close affiliations with the church. The church still dominates Poland in many ways.
I think great change will come, peaking sometime around 2030, when the majority of the nation turns to face Poland's problems head-on with a fresh set of priorities for the political/economic agenda. |
