Right now (prior to this morning, that is) it's dominated by conservative middle-aged farts who are kept in power by millions of Babcia's and Dziadek's who vote them in because it's the right thing to do religiously, recalling what I mentioned earlier about the current government's (overly) close affiliations with the church. ania, if you would live in poland you would know that "so called young blood in sejm" is all about money. look up Nitras, Nowak, Schetyna and you will know that these idiots represent anyone but themselves and they are so called you blood in government. i disagree with tremendous amount of BS PiS is feeding polish people especially with regards to the foreign ministry; however one argument you can't hold off against them is patriotism as they really serve the country to the best of their abilities.
this is truly a tragedy and i don't want to get into any arguments. poland lost remarkable amount of talent, governors, ministers, army generals. |

There is no denying the strong sense of patriotism that has been emanating from the sejm in years since Solidarnosc. That is not something that I believe needs to be changed in the top ranks right now (who are all puppets of a few select individuals) ... I am s little drunk to be debating this right now.
If you are Polish and live in Poland or if you live outside of Polska but still read Polityka and visit a few times a year to see what's really going on, I would be glad to discuss this further. If not - stuff it. |

The plane was very old, probably it should have been replaced about 10-15 years ago. Instead they were just overhauling it over and over (the last one was, im not sure about it, few weeks ago).
yes, it's a disaster to lose in one day the president (and first lady), all commanders of armed forces, president of polish national bank, chief of national security, candidate for future president and all other. Watching this was like .... I felt like i'm watching sci-fi channel. There are about 60-74 days to elect the new President and at the moment I can't imagine how it will look.
yes, we shouldnt put (almost) all of the most important people into one plane :( |

unfortunately, I agree. They're all about themselves and their money. They're fully aware that they wont be in charge forever, so they have their 5 minutes of ... stealing as much as they can. Their minds are 100 % focused on money. Imho, they're worse than these 50-60 year old pricks who grew up in communism regime, because they dont even have any ideas. It's all about money - their money.
Overall, I think that it's very unfortunate incident. Probably we'll know more soon but there are media quoting witnesses who reported that the engines were souding "weird". the plane circled three times around airport and decided to land even if 'airport control center' (sorry, I'm not sure how to translate it) adviced them FEW times to change the airport. Pilot ignored it.
Smolensk airport is very old too, there is no ie. ILS system (Instrument Landing System) which lets plane to land during heavy fog. It is possible that it was a pilot error but personally I think that there was just big pressure on him. Assuming that the plane was ok, they would be late for big ceremony. But overall, it wasnt a newbie pilot for sure. Maybe the plane wasnt ok and that's why he decided not to change the airport ???
It's worth mentioning that other plane (IL-76) was supposed to land in Smolensk airport too (30 minutes before 'polish plane'). The pilot tried to land two times but at the end decided to change the airport. |
