apocolipto Your buiness relies on International headliners because you dont know how to elevate local ones
Instead of booking so many djs to bring ppl to the club for you to meet your quota & get paid get off the bill & open that time for them
You know when it comes to music & offers from music you dont know
If your a booker go book if your talent be talent you cnat do both its a conflict of interests
apocolipto I can afford you muscially bring in 500 ppl & hand out flyers ill pay you $25 bucks
You need 5k for me bro meaning im bigger then your little international headliners sow atch your mouth in my presence |

apocolipto under pays talent makes them bring ppl to the so he can get more ppl into the venue to meet his quota & get paid
apocolipto takes up time slots for himself but hes milli vanilli musically you cnat be a booker & talent thats a conflct of interests
Apocolipto should stick to booking events handing out flyers & hustling local djs for money because he cnat get any from his own talents or lack of
apocolipto cant hustle real djs because he cant afford them or do what they do he should stick to handing out flyers
apocolipto for me to play b2b you have to be able to afford me to play you know what offers I get from Venues that support the scene
I heard what you spin & I know what you get offered money wise comapre me & you so id be humble in my presence |

What a good thread topic OJ. I completely agree with what you are saying as well.
I was actually having this conversation a few weeks ago with friends after seeing C&C at Stereo again last month. We were talking about Electric Zoo specifically. Whereas the line up will be great, so many good DJs will play (Digweed for example is on the bill)... but seeing a DJ for an hour 1/2 just doesn't do it for me. Where is the art? I hesitate to go to this because I think I would be more disappointed. Digweed for such a short set to me is just musical blasphemy. (Much like in my opinion with C&C and Danny T playing “Zoo" last year).
As with programming as Swamper mentioned, I agree with him as well. Sure mixing and programming go hand in hand, but Satoshi in January is a good example of, “if you don’t have perfect programming you can lose the crowd”. Satoshi only had two hours. I was truly disappointed when I heard this and did not have high expectations. But due to impeccable programming, and reading the crowd like nobody's business, he delivered probably the best set I've heard so far this year. His mixing is also flawless, but if he relied on only his mixing that night, the set would not have been above the bar of excellence. Yes mixing and programming go hand in hand, but pulling off a "5 hour" set in 2 hours is programming mastery.
I miss the Deep Dish all access nights at Guvernment... Danny all night at System or Footy.... 5 hour Digweed sets at Guv/System... I am so glad that I was able to experience these times in my life. A Story was told and the unexplained always took place those nights/mornings. It is not the same anymore for me... I can only imagine how those feel that started with their EDM partying before I did.
As mentioned many a time before... Everything is about the money more and more these days. Yes it’s a business that needs to be run, and I completely understand that with any business, times change, clientele changes, adaptations need to be made to keep your business a float.
But sacrificing the magic behind the music we all love, is it all worth it? |

I disagree. In Toronto, Montreal and Miami I can think of 3 different people that are bookers/DJs or bookers that became DJs. It's the nature of the beast.
There's a guy in Montreal that is smart because he's booked himself to play parties with a lot of international artists and now he's getting booked in cities due to his exchange bookings. |

I know it's hard sometimes to ignore him. I'm definitely guilty of it. But I try my best just to skip over his posts and continue talking about the thread so that it doesn't completely ruin them and we can still carry on with a good thread. Especially this one. |
