We were talking about Electric Zoo specifically. Whereas the line up will be great, so many good DJs will play (Digweed for example is on the bill)... but seeing a DJ for an hour 1/2 just doesn't do it for me. Where is the art? I hesitate to go to this because I think I would be more disappointed. Digweed for such a short set to me is just musical blasphemy. (Much like in my opinion with C&C and Danny T playing “Zoo" last year). |
Sure, but couldn't one argue that the Electric Zoo festival is trying to do something different... Breaking the mold of a Digweed 5 hour set in a club you've been to 500 times... Showcasing your favourite artists in a different format, forcing them to push their own limits of originality + creativity alongside their respective peers...
I think there is a time/place for both :) |

Festival vs. Club Set. Fair enough and a very good point. ;)

your looking at a buiness view thats not the nature of music
someone who loves music & is in a postion to book should help ppl who they see with talent not get themselves in there
Its easy to get played with top talent when your booking that makes your scene get lame & watereddown with acts who would have never got a chance to played
If Im a booker I show my talent in the acts I book not taking there time to promote myself |

I know it's hard sometimes to ignore him. I'm definitely guilty of it. But I try my best just to skip over his posts and continue talking about the thread so that it doesn't completely ruin them and we can still carry on with a good thread. Especially this one. |
I was totally enjoying reading this
nevermind his posts - but ppl quote and reply to him, so it's even harder grrr |

multiple artists lineup/festival (showcasing variety)
vs.
one artist doing the storytelling

Or maybe that booker is doing it because they have that same passion and drive as the person that they are booking in their club, and don't want to be doing just their "day job" all the time... |

ya, I did kind jump outside the realm of this topic a little bit by going down the festival route.... :p
My point was long winded and just to the fact that I don't like short Dj sets... lol |

im going to disgree
If they had the same passion they wouldnt ever want to be put on because they hire themselves they would want to be put on for what they do
if a booker wants to be a talent they should go thru what other djs go thru
dealing with annoying bookers & promoters who underpay to get more money in there pockets etc
If I get to book for a club & book myself that doesnt make me look legit doesnt matter who I play with it makes me look the opposite |

no booker should be a dj...its total conflic of interest for the evnet and the club/venue
If you wanna dj..play other peoples parties not your own.
were have some really good examples of this but thankfully they moved away..lol |

if your a good dj & a booker someone will book you
why not give djs who work hard for you some time to do there thing give them soem shine as a booker tahst your job
what credible booker would take time from a dj just to pimp himself?
a booker pimps himself by the acts he brings in & how he can elevate thoose acts not by showing he can book himself |
