I know, you shoulda seen the first time m&s were there, even more live...best time Ive ever had at Tabu, and I agree, Jason, I dont know but maybe you could do an event there, potential, I dont know.
And we were supposed to have them 2 more times, guess what, they didn't like the new management and are now coming back, say goodbye to big names in waterloo, just, sucks. :( |

Unless they have shares... but they dont own it, and mickey doesn't manage anything anymore, promotions, djs, anything at all.
But anyways, if you look at the discussion....not alot of ppl have said top 40 at all :) so this is a start! |

i put it on this forum, but I dont know how many people did it. But remembers its on Tabus page, and the comments have been coming from people on the page... No one was answering when I first put it on here, and for a while, soon as I "status" updated it so everyone a fan of tabu could comment, i got responses:)

Waterloo has enough Top 40 mainstream bars... and Purple Room is hardly more than fancy bathroom line-up... it's time someone brings the House to Waterloo! Plus... the lasers are so much cooler with epic trance builds, as opposed to Flo-Rida and/or Akon, IMHO.

Umer Qureshi only Trance/house. If i want to hear mainstream music, I will goto ceasers or some other club. That's Tabu's specialty.

myself and several others have tried to approach ryan about doing this kind of stuff at tabu/140. all he does is ignore us. there was a proposal drawn up about a month ago, which he still has not acknowledged, written just before the club started staying open later and saying they were going to possibly play edm after 1am.

i've run a number of edm events in waterloo, and constantly struggle with trying to decide between cheesier acts that will draw (such as mstrkrft last year) and more legit acts that sometimes fail to draw (like hatiras + flipside in march).
seems to me like now that lots of uni students equate top40 and house, people want to seem more hip and be into what we know as edm (the more underground, the cooler you are, right?). it's awesome that people are discovering the genre, but a lot are just into it for the purpose of feeling like theyre onto the next big thing before everyone else, as opposed to actually appreciating the genre. even though edm nights have never lasted in the past in kw, if there's ever been a time it's definitely coming. whether it's at tabu/140 or somewhere else, we will have a night in kw and chris if you really do back the genres and aren't just a tool of club politics, you'll help spread the word.

Alot of people have about many diff things, but they were all brushed away. things change though, so id contact tabu directly now, cause we have new managers, but this is why Im working cause they only want top 40, when I know alot of people went to Tabu for house, and EDM, ive never seen at any other club in Waterloo Play EDM at 2 and a crowd even if its small stay till 3 like ive seen at Tabu

Omg I would love listening to that if possible. what time would it be, and Ill join if its to help, Would be a awesome drive home listening to it, esp when its a long night of work/driving but nice, ohh cheese but yeah i heard about flipside in guelph, if you possibly do a special event im sure they'd consider it. JFK from mstrkrft LOVES tabu and actually was dieing to play there, for free, lol, said he wants to rip the club dianglly. w/e that means lol
Yeah, not all though but its because times are even changing....like pitbull, has all house beats if you really listen to his new songs, I dont think its that, but if they do eh, hope you feel cool when you have your hands in the air and dont know why lol. but still they really only to cheese they wanna hear. They prob dont get that feeling inside hearing it like we do but one day they could. Sadly, I had to do an all ages Last Sunday, but man that was one of the best crowds Ive ever seen go wild to house, and Tabu, it was pure hype, and of course theres those, feel kids who think its about grinding but from the booth alot of people just wanted the music, which REALLLY looks for the future of EDM, I hope we can have 1 night a week of EDM, i would love it to be at tabu since I work every weekend, but if its on a fri/sat im SOL on going anywhere, and I know tabu can support it. and if you've ever heard of DJ Kurtbradd, my best friend, You know how much he loves it, he got me into it. Im trying, I started this discussion On Tabus page hoping to open eyes. and If I can spread the word that way... Its a start

Don't ruin what you have. Just don't. If you think you're losing some edge...contact Hax, me, Barry, all the people who approached you to help. Pretty clear the Tabu faithful want EDM and you can still do great business. Second you go top40, you will disappear off the map. You will always have 140 for that.

Chris, who's in charge right now? Couple of months ago, Scott was really being attentive and smart, but all of a sudden, management change. I guess Ryan is the only one around who has any input, however his email/phone/fb seems to have a filter. Ryan, if you're out there somewhere, PM!!!! |

Tabu used to be something not only new but also different in first few months of operation, always packed for exactly that same reason and then it started turning into the place that people go to strictly because its new, all those people standing on the side not moving at all are clear indicator that place is turing into , Manzone and Zone were a great move and crowd was really feeling but new manegement closed those doors...leaving KW EDM crowd to go to TO for our party desires.
ocasional events are the way to go in KW, the junkies in elements were good but turnout was not really that great, elements is too big a club to be able to fill it up IMO.
but anyway those of you that want to hear some good House/Tech/Tribal should come to PR May 8, and Ceasars May 14, my Ethnologic brothers will be playing :D |

i wanted to do hatiras and flipside there, ryan ignored me. only time he answered me was for that joke of a dj contest a few months back at 140. jfk will play anywhere you pay him to play... there's a reason i insisted on hiring both members of mstrkrft and not just him, and we filled elements.

yeah, all i used to do was frosh+ wet/dry parties and the underagers always went nuts to house... all the djs i used spun house (obviously club house not really edm but this was before pitbull and the other top40 that passes as house now in the mainstream).
i have seen kurtbradd and im sure he's the most legit of anyone there (allie v, wow, what a tool), but i wouldn't count on him to draw on his own. you wanna get people in there and get them to gain a new appreciation for edm? you need more recognizable names in edm, esp. now the the m&s series has been cut short.
is 140 still open on thursdays? is tabu still closed on thursdays? |
