resurrection? really? He had to resort to that? Buddha lived to 80 and never had to resort to cheap theatrics to gain followers for his religion.
Ever notice how Jesus made sure he had the centre cruxifix as well....... |

I only wish you could do the same with Jews or Muslims, but apparently those two are untouchable. |
Huh?
They just get more outraged.
As for Muslims... Remember the Danish cartoons? |

Or...maybe it's improbable simply because Jesus' existance is itself, improbable. |
I'd argue the exact oposite. It's exceedingly probable that there was a man named Jesus who lived in the early first century and managed to significantly influance a small number of people who in-turn were quite influential on a number of small communities. Paul's letters should be considered as reasonably credible as evidence, as should those of Peter. Of course since they are included in the bible many who would prefer to believe that Jesus is entirely mythical will argue that they cannot be considered evidence. Many such people want non-christian eye witness accounts or records... I'd want them too. Unfortunately, the Romans more or less destroyed any records held in the temple when they burned it in 70AD; not that I contend there would have definately been any record of Jesus; however, it is the most likely place one would have found record of his trial before the Sanherdrin, which is likely the only event of a historical Jesus' life that would have merited historic record. Really, one must remember that if there were a historical Jesus he would have been just about as insignificant in large picture as would any other peasent from the area have been during his life time. If not for his disturbance in the temple it's more likely then not no one would have taken any note of Jesus that would have resulted in any record. Additionally, there are far too many references to a historical Jesus from non-Christian sources that were made prior to Christianity having any real influance to simply write him off as having never existed. Was the historical Jesus the same as the Jesus portrayed in the Gospels... likely not, but one's taking a big leap to claim it's probable that no such person existed. |

| You just don't grasp the overwhelming logic here, Moral. We've never seen him with our own eyes, therefore he does not exist - that's just how everything works, didn't you know? History is a sham! The sun is an illusion! JET CONTRAILS MY ASS - THOSE ARE MIND CONTROL CHEMICALS. |

I've got to side with Moral on this one: the historical Jesus is as likely to have existed as the historical Socrates, and their powers were probably not really that different. If anything, Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John may just have exaggerated a bit either because they just loved the guy so much that they lost it, or just tinkered with his biography so he could sound more credible to later generations. Had Plato, Xenophon, Aristotle, and Aristophanes done the same to Socrates, we'd live in a very different world right now.
And that makes me wonder. If Christians have crosses all over the place to remind everyone else that Jesus dies for our sins, would Socratians worship jars!? |

Laugh all you like but answer me this: why doesn't my car leave contrails when I drive really fast?
Explain that, Clarissa!

| My family is Catholic. I don't practice, but I just wanted to say I don't trust Pope Benedict. Pope John Paul was the man. |
