| I'm pretty confrontational, and have self defense and crisis intervention training under my belt. I would have no problem stepping in if I deemed the situation "safe" enough. There are definitely limits to what kind of danger I would put myself in for the sake of others. |

i'm stupid but i expect better of people
a dude needs help, and people just stand there and not try to help??
whether you intervene physically or call for help, DO SOMETHING
if people stop giving a damn about each other, how is humanity suppose to survive?
i dont expect a small woman to try to take down a 250lb dude, but you should do what you can, under the circumstance
no wonder thugs think they can do anything. people are sheep |

Putting myself in the way between an attacker with a broken bottle and a victim is something I honestly probably wouldn't do, unless I know for sure I can safely control the situation. You couldn't possibly know whether or not he had the 'guts/balls' to actually do it. Say he does do it and you end up in a hospital or losing an eye or something or perhaps your life, was it worth it to get in the way or interfere with it over 50 cents? That's a question people have to ask themselves. I probably would've gave him the change or even a bill or bus ticket if it was me just to deescalate the situation. Ofcourse I would try to call the cops or press the panic button but it's a lot easier said than done. If it was someone I know then the whole situation would be different and I wouldn't think about it for a second. But for a stranger I would proceed with caution, I guess I'm just not that great of a Samaritan lol. :S |
well the thing was no one had the 50 cents, and as soon as you see that fear in someones eyes it's instinctive to react sometimes. That lady was freaked out. After I stopped what was happening she sat beside me on the bus and thanked me so much, her graitude made it worth it.
Yah you don't know if the person is crazy and what they can do but that's the chance you take. Just like some people sky dive I guess.
I think the odds os someone doing something like stabbing or shooting, especially someone who they don't know is slim. Most times they are just trying to scare you into giving them stuff. It's like a bear, show no fear they won't attack.
If someone has a weapon I would never get physical, that is just stupid, especially unarmed. Gotta use your mind, they are usually pretty dumb anyway and don't want to go to extremes. |

People not paying attention to something like this, or when someone falls over has nothing to do with people being rude in Toronto, lol. It's a universal human quality that happens everywhere. Having lived in 3 countries, I have vouch for that.
If someone drops something in front of me, I always pick it up and give it to them. I once chased a dude at Bay station for like 10 minutes to give him the $20 he dropped. I help women with strollers up and down the stairs, and I always hold doors and elevator doors if I see someone fast approaching. Some people have manners and others don't. The same way some people turn the blind eye to the world when they're walking somewhere, and others stop and help. |

There's some good input and experiences here.
I was thinking ... is carrying pepper spray illegal? I am not a big guy either, but I'd hate to stand and watch this type of unfold in front of me. We have a heavy police presence in downtown core of Hamilton for the same reason snatch-n-grabs are common in Toronto. For some reason I feel that small and petty theft is on the rise. You often cant even throw a house party without the fear of having something stolen.
Sometimes when I walk in downtown, some people look like they are in really bad shape. Its like society is forgetting about them, and they are taking their revenge on us. |

Someone should've pressed the yellow emergency strip in this situation. That's what it's there for. |

Pepper Spray is illegal... Bear Spray is not illegal. They're both the same, but wording and use is different. Most surplus stores will have you sign a waiver. You use it on humans, you may be charged. |

Everything in this country illegal. Even self-defence. I was hoping with the Tories in power. I could go buy guns, but I guess not  |

No, stating your case would have been to have said something along the lines of, "Just more proof that the TTC is a poorly run organisation, unsafe for its ridership" (which would have been untrue; the main issue being that a bunch of apathetic rubberneckers stood by while someone got jacked).
"My car" and "hehehehehe" are stating your obvious self-serving disposition. Half-decent civic ideology aside, please don't ever run for political office, thanks much. |

You think the TTC bad. I heard a story of the MTA. A person in the booth saw someone getting assaulted but can't do anything (seeing they are not allowed to intervene). Whats worse is, the booths supposedly don't have a phone to call out for help :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: |

thats because we have already debated it in other threads, so my statement here doesnt have to be grand for most people to get it.
Id say that transit whiner thread was pretty self serving by the transit riding community... |
