I was thinking the same thing! Why the hell did the woman call the cops? Someone tried to save your life bitch, and died b/c of it!

I'm still so shocked from that video.

Soon enough karma going to catch up with her and the rest of the people who walked by.

This is honestly disgusting. Not only do people just ignore the man, but people actually stop and stare, turn him over and see his wounds, and ...TAKE A PICTURE WITH THEIR PHONE! Yet, NO ONE calls 911. I'm shocked, appalled, and utterly disgusted by this behaviour.

I feel like I would be willing to do more if there were other people to help me though. I mean, if someone was being mugged and there were others trying to help the man I think I would help too.

edit: was mentioned in the vid you posted, just saw that. It's pretty common though, i've seen it happen maybe 5 times, unless a few people step in to help the whole group will either stare or walk away.

Eleanor Roosevelt's Wartime Prayer

Dear Lord,

Lest I continue
My complacent way,
Help me to remember that somewhere,
Somehow out there
A man died for me today.
As long as there be war,
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?

In good conscience, if you are the one getting mugged, would you want someone to help you, even if that person risks getting hurt or even killed in process? If yes, are you willing to take the same risk for someone else? If you want someone to help you, but you are not willing to do the same... well, humanity has a lot of problems.
I know I can't ask someone to take risks on my behalf, if I am not willing to take the same risks for others.

It's not just up to cops or firefighters to take risks for public safety. I believe it's moral and civil duty of every citizen in society to protect their society, and to do what they feel and know is right.

It depends man. If they're armed, I just want them to take my money and go.

What if someone tries to "help" me, pisses off the mugger, and he kills us both?

I've had a gun pulled on me before when some dude robbed my Pizza Hut, and the ONLY thing on my mind was "Give him the money and get him out of here."

I didn't want my manager to get heroic and try to knock the gun away. I didn't want someone walking into the store and scaring the guy. All I wanted to do was open the cash register and send him on his way.

Worth mentioning is the fact that when he DID leave, I had to be REMINDED to call 911.

I should have been more clear. There are times when the only sensible thing is to call the cops after the event. But the main point i'm trying to get at is that you must be willing to do something, if situation dictates that you should get involved, and you can do something about it.

Spent the entire day reading about anti Nazi resistance people. Most of them didn't survive the war. I suppose they were stupid for standing up for what they felt was the right thing to do.

I've heard of the bystander effect before. Most commonly when women are getting mugged or rape and ppl just stand there. I was always taught to yell Fire, instead of Rape.

I can attribute the bystander effect to ppl who may have just ignored the dying man or walked by and maybe thought he was just a dirty old bum. But the ppl who actually took pictures of him, and ESPECIALLY the guy who turned him over and saw him bleeding....come on. That cannot be the bystander effect. That's just evil. They're aren't just standing by anymore. They're actively participating in letting this man die.

if you cannot help physically, just make sure that you get a good look at the mugger. getting a good description to the cops is also key. you would be surprised how bad people are at remembering how other people looked.

I read in the Star today that their wasnt enough time to help the old man anyway :haha: yeah right.

i go to gbc school of design, which is basically near queen and jarvis (lotta crackheads and "thugs" in that area)... and there have been a couple instances where i helped ppl out.. no need to get into details.. but if you feel confident that u can help someone u should do it..

i understand that under certain circumstances there isn't much you can do, because you don't want to lose your life for something you could have avoided.. but personally i get pretty upset when i see others being harmed and i guess i just don't think about that at all...

it's pretty sad the reasons why people pick on others, or harm others.. whether it be for pocket change, or a smoke.. i had two guys walk past me near my school at around 9pm while i was walking to the subway.. and one asked me for a DRAG of my smoke. like c'mon seriously ?? these guys ended up getting angry because i wouldn't give them a drag, and i wouldn't give him my "kills" because i had just lit the smoke and was in a hurry to go home... at least i was able to stand my ground, but a smaller or more elderly person might not have been so lucky.. :(
AY STAR
new years day 2009, i was sitting in my car pre-gameing before i was gonna go into this club at like 8am

i see this drunken couple walking just screaming at each other and stumbleing, at first i just minded my business and kept drinking
suddenly the girl screams at the guy "get the away from me, you kissed my best friend" and she pushed him to get away...
he turns around and clocked her right in the mouth and the girl passed out
mind you it was 8am and the temp outside was like 20 degree's, i didnt even hesitate and took the club from my car and chased this guy down the block
i let him go cause i felt the girls health was more important
i picked her up and took her to a deli and i told the guys to give her some ice and call an ambulence or something

on a side note, this should apply for all guys:
whenever your leaving the club with girlfriends you should walk them to a cab or to their car

iam just terrified to wake up one day and see one of my friends on the news saying she was raped and murdered while leaving a club
this has happened to several girls in nyc the past few years
its horrible
