Yea, I don't see why athletes, swimmers and children wouldn't want 2nd hand smoke blowing in their face during their activities...
Sorry, explain to me again why this is such an outrageous and bad idea. |

id be more concerned about diesel fumes from passing buses and garbage trucks to be honest. And even then i dont think it would make a diff.
Why is it so outrageous? banning smoking in the great outdoors? really?? |

lol this comment is slightly off the wall
I can't even imagine that happening - the only place where anyone can have smoke blown in their face is a patio rammed with smokers |

If you're hard up for money, maybe you should consider saving some by taking public transit. Lol. |

Can you remember when smoking was allowed everywhere? Those days were before I picked up the habit but it still seems so foreign now. Walking through the mall with a smoke in-hand... lol weird. I was so surprised when I first got to my hotel in Cuba and people were smoking everywhere lol.
I have no issue with banning smoking in a car with children, or smoking in restaurants - I certainly don't want to eat in a smoky room and don't believe waitstaff should be exposed to second-hand smoke as part of their job.... but I totally agree that it affects the restaurant and entertainment industry.
I smoke (trying to quit on and off lately), and I'm certainly not proud of my habit.... If I go out to din din with friends, I'm now more-likely to skip coffee or drinks afterwards because we can't lounge and chat (and smoke). We might just get take the get-together to one of our houses (or in the summer, have a coffee in the park).
I used to go to coffee houses and diners all the time after work with friends for coffee (and smoking lol) - that's such a thing of the past....
I don't endorse smoking - I honestly hate it and NEVER smoke infront of non-smokers...(I was with my ex for 7 years and he saw me smoke once lol) but it's unrealistic to claim it has not had a significantly negative effect on the industry.
Banning smoking in parks is simply dumb. As was stated, it's highly unlikely second-hand smoke outdoors is a health-risk. So you're concerned about the negative example it sets for children? Ummm... most of the "bad examples" are the aforementioned kids' parents. Make it illegal if that is such a huge concern. (Force me to quit lol) |

We're not talking blown-in-your-face smoke here. If someone is standing on the outskirts of a playground, the smoke is going to travel into the area with the kids, you can't deny that.
Why anyone would be against the idea to limit children's exposure to 2nd hand smoke is beyond me...
Why are you guys so against this?
Oh no, I can't smoke within 9 ft of a playground or swimming pool or running track. Whoop-di-in-do...
When they start banning smoking in the bleachers or on sidewalks or something similar, then you can start an uproar.
If your point is that they'll take the banning to a new and ultimately frustrating level later down the line, then complain when they actually do.
Even if it's barely a health issue, it's a nuisance issue. What athlete or child wants to inhale even a bit of smoke while performing/playing? |

I would rather have a little smoke from a few smokers in the air around the soccer field then the acid rain, fumes from cars, pesticides in the grass, detergents on the clothing, and the many other things that could harm are poor little children.
I don't think people should play music in their cars that can be heard from outside the confines of the car as their music might have a bad word in it and I don't want the children hearing such words. |
