what stage are you at? (pg. 5)

I think I am doing good. Getting deeper into the details of my productions as I did before. I think I could have something like a "any record" out there already, but I just dont want to. It just wouldnt even sound like me, but like another version of another track, copied from those other tracks of other artists that copied... hm I think you get my point.

Still learning with my new gear and have fun with experiments, especially my 2 new synths and audio mangling (switched from Reason to Cubase, so everything is shiny & new).

Currently I try to develope 2 projects. One for my trance & house tunes and one for the rather experimental, electronica stuff I like to do sometimes. Getting some little sample packs out, some soundbanks and some tutorials too.

i think it's easier to copy another one style than having yours for a release, if you look at the site of any label they always say things like "innovative, different , original..." but what they really want it's generic stuff that it's proved to sell easily.

It's good to have an own sound that could be recognized but you've to think if having your own style is going to help you , there are some people who clearly have a style "Sander van Doorn, Aly & Fila , Andy Blueman..." some that came to my mind, while i can't recognize if a track is from Tiesto or AvB , i think this is because they don't make his own tracks and have hired people to do them lol.

I did intend on answering honestly at first untill I realized I really have no clue what stage I'm at.

I mean there ARE times I won't lie when I haven't produced in a week for whatever personal reason and I'll come back and tell myself "this track is gonna put prydz's basslines to shame" but I don't think I ever really believe myself.

Maybe if I did my music would start soundin better lol :tongue2

After about a year of struggling with the creative side of production, I think I discovered what my problem was. I gave up drinking soda about a year ago... had one a couple weeks ago and went in the studio and ideas were flying right out of me. I can't ing believe it. I have gotten some things done over the past year, but the past 2 weeks have been like it was 4 years ago for me.

I'm in the process of coming back from a 2,5 year "break", switching to cubase from FL, learning to play the keyboard and some music theory.

All that while banging my head on the wall because i stopped in the first place.

Due to a chronic bad back, I haven't done anything in over a year. However during this time, my listening tastes have evolved and widened dramatically and its really got me thinking about the kind of tracks I want to make.

My back is on the mend so hopefully will get back into it soon. And my number one rule will be to forget about the petty production details and just create stuff I enjoy.

Hey G-Con - good to see you're back on the forums!

Or, should that be, good to see your back on the forums?! :stongue:

Anyway, sorry to hear about your back troubles, but it's good to hear that it's on the mend.

Been producing for 1 year, can write nice melodies, know the basics synthesis, can choose the sounds that go together.. I'm trying to improve arrangement and learn the secrets of mixdown. I actually know and understand almost everything in theory but my tracks still sucks a lot. I'll buy a better soundcard so i can start producing on Cubase because Reason's limitations are slowing me down.
