ITT: A lot of claims. Nothing to back them up.
I'll stay on the fence, thank you very much. |

if someone claims that souls exist the onus is on them to prove it, not everyone else to disprove it. what else, other than passed down mythology suggest they do exist? |

What I want to know is this: how do the people in here who boldly assert that no soul/spirit exists prove they're right?
And remember: this is a question beyond religion and mythology. We're talking about a 'thing' that we can't see but is very real because, well, 'something' inside of us, whether you're a(n) believer/atheist/existentialist/nihilist/etc., is driving us on both a conscious and unconscious level, as cheesy as that sounds. |

| Yes, there is something inside us that's driving us on a conscious and unconscious level, that contains everything we are emotionally, intellectually and so forth. Its called a brain. And it comes with an expiration date. |

I'd say that something 'drives' us, as well. You can call this the unconscious, you can call this selfish genetic structures designed to replicate themselves in the most successfully volatile combinations given environmental settings and stress demand, or you could just call this a soul, which admittedly has a lot of very mystical, socially-transmissive connotations, but doesn't mean much because it's so very vague. Or maybe that's the entire point.
Regardless, people go to the same place as the flowers strewn over their gravesites do. But that is not necessarily a negative thing - to become the ground, the earth, dissemination towards unknown gravities and states of being or non-being, whereby perceived consciousnesses grab at the roots of reality upon their plummet, grasping to make sense of existence as though it would make a difference. Sometimes, it is rather comforting knowing that you probably know just as much about the true nature of things as a tree does.
I think a more interesting question would be: do souls have colours yet unseen to us? Sounds never heard until that final tear through the visage of the consensus time phenomenon in which we share thoughts with one another? Do souls feel? Are they merely ferried by a unifying force one might call 'God' or is he still a silent passenger even in the all-feeling inexistence of death as we might know it? |

yeah man, there's a magical abacus that gets to work every time sperm meets an egg, and gives that fertilised egg special properties outside biology. |

I meant that we're aware of that "drive" consciously or (the correct word) subconsciously. But, yes, my wording and phrasing were incorrect. |

| We are all essentially star dust anyway and constantly share atoms. What you are now is what was around at the start of the universe and will be around forever. Whether there's "souls" or anything, well we will never know so no point stressing about it. |

So you'd believe in Russell's teapot? |
