In Canada, you can usually get it at a health food store, and in most pharmacies. Sometimes you can find it in the grocery store as well.

You should probably also up your intake in eggs, milk and lean meats - these can help in the production of serotonin.

Although it is "womens health" it applies to men too.

Oh... that's another good point. If you're taking drugs... stop. Drugs with the chemical balances in your brain (including pot and I am sure all the stoners will get uptight about that). If you're having depression issues, you need to stop the drugs ASAP.

It doesn't "take it away", it just takes longer for your seratonin to get back to normal. That's what the 5HTP is for.

That isn't true. It causes damage such that you don't uptake as much serotonin afterward.

Specifically, the drug damaged cells that release the neurotransmitter called serotonin. Using an imaging technique called positron emission tomography (PET), Ricaurte noted a 20-60% reduction in healthy serotonin cells in the drug users. Damage to these cells could affect a person's abilities to remember and to learn.

That's a very typical article about an inconclusive study that was done ten years ago.

FTA:

"The study examined the brain of a 26-year-old man who had died of a drug overdose. He had been using Ecstasy for nine years, and in the last months of his life had also started using cocaine and heroin. His brain was compared to those from autopsies of 11 healthy people."

"Some of the behavioral effects of this drug are probably due to the massive release and depletion of serotonin," Kish said. "And the depression that people feel after going off the drug could also be explained by the depletion of serotonin in the brain."

"This is the first study to show that this drug can deplete the level of serotonin in humans."

"Of course, these findings should be confirmed through additional studies," Kish said. "Conclusions based on a single case can only be tentative."

Did I mention that's from 10 YEARS AGO? Also, I somehow doubt it's a coincidence that when you do a google search for "ecstasy serotonin," this article is the second from the top result.(or maybe all the e turned me into a conspiracy theorist :tongue2)

Here's something, on the subject, that is a bit more recent and credible, and also answers the OP's question:

I'm not advocating drug use or trying to argue that ecstasy doesn't affect serotonin levels(it does); just pointing out that that article sucks, and most will, because we've yet to see extensive research done on this drug, and more importantly, over an extended amount of time. It's still a relatively new substance, and it's only now starting to get serious attention from researchers again since it was banned back in the day.
