That's a very typical article about an inconclusive study that was done ten years ago.
FTA:
"The study examined the brain of a 26-year-old man who had died of a drug overdose. He had been using Ecstasy for nine years, and in the last months of his life had also started using cocaine and heroin. His brain was compared to those from autopsies of 11 healthy people."
"Some of the behavioral effects of this drug are probably due to the massive release and depletion of serotonin," Kish said. "And the depression that people feel after going off the drug could also be explained by the depletion of serotonin in the brain."
"This is the first study to show that this drug can deplete the level of serotonin in humans."
"Of course, these findings should be confirmed through additional studies," Kish said. "Conclusions based on a single case can only be tentative."
Did I mention that's from 10 YEARS AGO? Also, I somehow doubt it's a coincidence that when you do a google search for "ecstasy serotonin," this article is the second from the top result.(or maybe all the e turned me into a conspiracy theorist :tongue2)
Here's something, on the subject, that is a bit more recent and credible, and also answers the OP's question:
I'm not advocating drug use or trying to argue that ecstasy doesn't affect serotonin levels(it does); just pointing out that that article sucks, and most will, because we've yet to see extensive research done on this drug, and more importantly, over an extended amount of time. It's still a relatively new substance, and it's only now starting to get serious attention from researchers again since it was banned back in the day.
Did you notice that I linked 2 other articles as well?
I have a lot of articles on my University library that I can't link you to unfortunately (you have to have a log-in), that discuss the affect of ecstasy on serotonin in the brain. There is a pretty much conclusive agreement across the board that ecstasy damages the ability to re-uptake serotonin.
Unfortunately academic papers aren't typically readily available on the internet, but even still, what is available still supports this point.

Yes it does... and it can also damage the receptors so that you wont take up as much serotonin later on. Many people who do a lot of E suffer from depression as a result.
Sex is a good one... but not everyone can have sex whenever they want. Going out and doing something you enjoy can get the serotonin flowing. Getting some sun is excellent too if you think you're suffering from depression. St John's Wort is apparently good for it as well.
Exercise is good, but if you're depressed, it may be hard to get the motivation to start doing it to begin with. I suggest getting out, do stuff outside in the sun and with other people, and start taking St John's Wort. The combination should improve how you're feeling and then maybe you can start working out.
Oh... and eat healthy! Eating garbage food will make you feel ty and that does nothing for improving your overall mood.
I was an e-tard for many years and this post is facts !!

No, it's been a long day and I'm shot, I actually thought the first two were just a really long url! ...and I skipped the second one.
I just checked them out, but they read like they were intended for children. :conf:
If you get the spare time, and are so inclined, see what you can copy/paste from your university's articles; I'd like to read them. I wish I still had access to the journals at school.

it sort of works but I never really took it for long periods of time in a row so I can't say if overall constant use of it will help.
Buspar pills helped me but your just changing one drug for another

I happened to catch a segment of that oprah doctor, and he said sitting upside down helps with seratonin.
Eg. fling yourself upside down in a chair. p b
rest there, I dunno read, watch tv, whatever.
Bloodflow to the head apparently helps feed the brain.
I biked to the park today to read and lay in the sun. It was great. I actually phazed out of my mind it was so good for a while. Bliss, leading to disassosation with spacetime. (I took a nap without realizing it/ passed out.)
Not exactly what I would imagine rolling on E / MDMA / X might be like but it felt great.

No ? I guess it's time to pick up one of Roger Teeter's "Teeter Hang-ups"

Most of them are PDF copies, so I can't just copy and paste (I think it's an effort to prevent plagiarism... or they just suck). I could probably print screen and host the photos. I might if I have some spare time.

But unlike the other drugs, Buspar has undergone the rigors of clinical trials and studies to prove its safety and effectiveness. Then again, Buspar doesn't work for everyone.
To the OP: with all seriousness go see a doctor if you're depressed.
WittyHandle
I take this, as well as fish oil 3x a day, which many people don't know helps with mood. I occasionally take 5htp too, and this combination has made a huge improvement in my mood. As mentioned earlier, exercise and eating well will also help a lot.

This is an excellent way to increase one's serotonin level:
