Wait, you're putting this on par with the discovery of another country? :stongue:

This is such a pile of BS

They go to say it was discovered by Americans etc... yet it was soviet geologists who unearthed this when Afghanistan was a Soviet Republic getting Soviet Advisory aid.

It was already known.

old charts and data at the library of the Afghan Geological Survey

how is this an American discovery?

A good portion of the country is rock, dirt, and mountains, its reasonable that vast amounts of minerals have built up, and untapped in this type of terrain. 1 Trillion dollars is a large amount of money, but you have to wonder if its an understatement. Aside from that, virtually all of Afghanistan's neighbors are heavy oil producing nations. I wonder how much oil is below the ground.

Its a shame Afghanistan and the Republic before the Soviet War never had a chance to turn the corner towards industrialization and the building of an independent world supplying economy. It was quite secular when it came to religion and culture before the war, so it could have easily been a country similar to Turkey if there was no modern hostile influences from outside, including the funding and support of "warlords" and militias from outside.

Going forward, I guess the question is how much of each dollar pulled out of Afghanistan's resources will actually make its way to the hands of the people? Given this find, and the stumbling upon oil you can expect within the next few years, Afghanistan should become one of the richer nations in that region. While also having the opportunity to build everything from scratch, with good measure.

The hand produces infantry units, and unlocks part of the tech tree. The only practical thing you'll ever use it for is creating a Cyborg Commando, a thoroughly Bad Motherfucker.

No. The first thing that jumped to my mind was an mp3 I listened to once called Dark Materia - The Picard Song

I assume it's mistyped but you never know

the only thing thats interesting about this announcement is the timing. as has already been pointed out, this information is not new, they just want to drum up support to prolong their stay in afghanistan.
