Can myspace ever return to glory?

Well, can it?

I personally think it was the best medium for hobbyist musicians/producers ever.

What's MySpace? ;)

I'm on Facebook, BTW.

its long done, the best thing to do now is figure out whats after twitter and facebook and get started networking on it now.

But i agree, it was great for spreading music! Do you guys remember the days of mp3.com ? lol

myspace was too buggy, too much spam, autoplay and everything else i hate. its better than facebook though lol, that thing is meaningless.

I know you're joking, but it actually doesn't seem too far from the truth. What gets me is that the folks at myspace have to know that they're getting their asses kicked by the other social networks, but they don't seem to even be trying to do anything about it. Are they ever going to try to regain their reign, or does it seem like they're content to just fade away?

Yeah, I'm on FB as well, but it's just not as conducive to promoting music as myspace is (was).
Kysora
Myspace and Facebook both suck because they wouldn't be half of what they are now if they focused on music. They had to appeal to everyone and a lot of quality control got affected because of it, the features appealing to musicians got pushed aside in favor of things far less useful.

IMO soundcloud is going to be the next big things for musicians if it hasn't already become so.

See, that's where I think sites like soundcloud, reverbnation, etc. can't compete - they ONLY reach other musicians, whereas the others reach a much broader user base.

I agree that Soundcloud won't be able to compete with MySpace for size, but quality wise it's worlds ahead because music is it's primary focus. MySpace tried to be a jack-of-all-trades and, like Kysora noted, the quality control suffered.
cryophonik
Yeah, I agree with you guys there. So, maybe the question should be, can soundcloud find a way to reach a larger, more general (i.e., non-musician) audience? But, unfortunately, I don't really see that being a priority for them.

MySpace definitely seems to be dying. I think part of its allure as a social networking site for musicians is also part of its failure. It's trying to be all things to all people. When you have so many musical networking sites like Indaba, SoundCloud, Band Camp, and Garage Band among throngs of others, it's really, really easy to get buried - particularly when sites like SoundCloud offer a much more sophisticated interface, where tracks can be marked up with comments by time-slice.

I have completely neglected my FaceBook page still holding over my South Park Solidarity Avatar as Kip Drordy - which is somewhat fitting, considering I only have 8 friends. My girlfriend, on the other hand, having started maybe two-weeks prior to when I was signed on, has over 450 friends - and a lot of them are actually really interesting people.

Facebook does one thing really well - networking. Its interface and options are pretty much geared to just that. While I can link to other web content from my Facebook page, I don't put the time into making enough compelling content on Facebook to merit much attention from others.

Soundcloud s all over myspace in one cataclysmic mega turd.

I love soundcloud's interface compared to Myspace's Rearlywouldload pages.

For the amateur musician I mean.
