In order to change the laws you dislike, you're going to have to do what you're doing, as well as convince others (both those who believe the opposite of what you do as well as those who aren't politically active at all) that your way (or the way of those you follow) is the best way. This requires rather formidable leadership qualities.

Do you believe you're going to convince other intelligent and rational people that your way is the best way by resorting to tactics like referring to your opponent as "McDouchebag"?

i think i already do more than enough and far more than most people and as time and money allow, i will probably get deeper into it. And i dont apologize for making fun of mcguinty either. Political humour is nothing new and is a form of expression.

Since we are on the topic. What do you do politically?

thats your opinion. Personally i think the total overall tax burden should be lowered as should government spending as well as government intrusiveness.

It's actually the opinion of damned near every economist. I do agree with you on the overall principle though.

ignorance does not make the tax better. The impact will be greatly felt every time i buy gas for one. If premier dad wanted to let this one slip by easy he would have exempted gas and electricity.

Jay, I was talking purely from a strategy point of view... he'll get more votes from the spending announcements this will make possible then he'll lose by not having exempted items such as gas and electricity. I'm not saying it's right by any means; however, if one presumes that polititions devise strategy to bolster electoral results then Dalton's team likely took the best approach (to the ends of being re-elected). The right thing to do is far too often at odds with electoral success... this tax is a good example; it is the right thing to do for the overall health of the provincial economy; however, it is likely to have negative electoral consequences no matter how well it is played.

you are right. mcguinty is a masterful manipulator and its unfortunate how people fall for it.

I really do wish more canadians cared and were better informed of the decisions that affect their daily lives.

Self-aggrandizing, maybes, justifications and deflecting back to the other guy, all in one post - while still managing to not answer my original question.

You'll do just fine in politics. ;)

As will you, as you did the exact same thing.

Just saying.

It's actually McGuinty's strategists; Dalton himself is a smooth operator, nice guy but not a "masterful manipulator." Left to his own devices he would be far too transparent for electoral success as he tends to see and discuss both the positive and negative sides of things aloud (unless he's changed a great deal since the mid-90s). If he weren't managed the way he is you'd likely see him more like Paul Martin when he was PM... moderating discussion rather then leading.

With regard to your last point... this is why I disagree with people when they scream and yell that more people need to vote; too few are educated, informed, and well versed in the issues that affect them; therefore, ill-equiped to effectively judge who is best to represent their interests.

I don't purport to have the answers to our political woes.

Harper also encouraged implementation of the HST at a lower rate but said it was the province's decision at what rate it actually set.

Really? how much lower of a rate was Mr. Harper advising? And when the points are lowered, was that to come out of his GST portion of the HST feed or the province's PST portion?

This was a Federal sell from the beginning! That's why they paid off McGuinty with 4.6 billion dollars to push this through, isn't it?

Your convienient omission of the Fed's responsibility in this tax change is very suspect.

i havnt omitted anything. No doubt the feds wanted it. But they, as well as Hudak, said that the best scenerio is a lowered combined tax. Hudak said 10%. This is how they brought the HST in out east.

Its not a perfect solution but far more reasonable than the tax grab we are about to have unleashed on us.

Inconsequential - this is your anti-HST, anti-McGuinty thread.

But if it will make you happy, I'll answer your question when you tell me whether you believe you're going to convince other intelligent and rational people that your way is the best way by resorting to tactics like referring to your opponent as "McDouchebag".

Hudak was on the radio this morning and said that he disagreed with this tax but that we were stuck with it till 2015 at which time a PC provincial gov would get rid of (or at least lower) it...

It's the first one...

About half way through...

He also said that the health tax that we started paying a coupla years ago don't actually go into health care...

It goes into the coffers with the tobacco tax and the gas tax...

Awesome...
