funny you mention Geneva
I plan on trying to move to Zürich this autumn.
Zürich is number three on the list and it's really my favorite place in the whole world.
These lists may not seem to logical to many of you including the comment from Bas, but they are based on many different factors beyond the sheer cool factor of them. This explains why some odd things get in the list but I bet most of these are real cool to live in and that's what the poll is about.
LA with it's traffic and all; sure it's an awesome wonderful city but it's really chaos (not the best word for this and no I am not saying LA isn't cool it's just ... well angels hell) |

My GF is Swiss and I've been to Zurich more than a 100 times - actually going to be there in two weeks. Great city, but a tiny bit too twatty for me - bit too sceney and elitist at times which in CH is saying something (if you know what I mean). Don't get me wrong Quality of life is amazing, not just in Zurich but in all of Switzerland but once you've lived in LA or London, it just seems a little too provincial for me. But I do love the fact you can be Italy, France or Germany in a couple of hours by train. I miss the food in CH though - the meats, the cheese, the wine.... just outstanding.
For me LA is greatest place to live right now and the traffic just doesn't bother me because I don't live in the sticks and don't have to drive everywhere in rush hour - I'd never want to raise kids here, but right now I'm having the time of my life :) |

The nightlife there sounds brilliant. The amount of cities I've visited where you can't get a beer between the hours of 5 and 7am is depressing. |
Sadly, that's the case here as well.
Retail sales of alcohol cease at 11PM while bars shut down at 3AM (which is still an hour more than Toronto). Sales resume at either 7 or 8AM. And it's not like the nightlife here offers anything beyond what other cities do, it's just that there's always that "anything goes" attitude and nothing is too far from anything else. |

| Yeaah, I definitely don't plan on settling down or raising any kids in this country. |

| Sydney? Yeah sure, if you can afford to buy a house. Which you can’t. |

I'd like to visit Fukuoka. The name sounds promising. |
If it's anything like the rest of Japan, I wouldn't dare living there unless:
- I was paid to study there and had a library I could benefit from;
- I got to stay in the main island (which already rules Fukuoka out);
- I lived in a place with enough foreigners as to get vegetarian food without much hassle;
- Suddenly felt the urge to become a womaniser (foreigners are apparently popular there, from what I've noticed).
But, I'm one of the few people I know that visited Japan and, within days, felt a despairing urge to swim out of that place. Maybe the fact that I visited London on my way there made it look bland in comparison.
London pretty much rocked my socks.
Edit: Actually, I'm being a bit unfair. I liked Hiroshima. And the snowy mountains in Nagano. And Hiroshima. |

The only thing that bothers me about Switzerland is their medieval traffic laws, other than that im fine with it. Would love to live somewhere just on the shore of lake Geneva though, such a beautiful place...just need to strike it rich before that... |
