International experience shows that its best for ZERO PERCENT rule when it comes to drinking and driving. Dont feel like wasting time looking for government sources to back this point, but in some countries that have switched from 0% to "couple drinks" (for example, Russia in 2001), it has resulted in significantly higher number of alcohol-blamed vehicular deaths. Hence they are trying to re-write that law back here. |

agreed but as i said, in the same countries u can drink on the street and all night. Also they have way better public transit. These are things that should be considered here if we really want to fix the problem.
In most countries for example, clubs are open all night, serve all night and people take the morning train or subway home. Often too, people hang out in the park and drink at 5 am before they catch the train.
All of this is illegal here. Not to mention im sure people taking transit here would be targeted by cops for public drunkeness.

I disagree. Making the law 21 will drive drinking underground. It didnt work in the US and it wont work here.
At least now, 19 plus can drink in licensed places under supervision. Make it illegal and youll see many more bush parties and basement parties like 16 year olds are having now.
People dont learn. Treating adults like children actually succeeds in turning them into children! |

You can't keep treating adults like children. So what's next...if you are 20-30 years of age you can't listen to music while driving because that age group gets into more accidents while listening to music then any other age group. |

Im pretty MADD about this stupid law. If they really wanted to fix things they would adopt the euro way of thinking.
the punishment for having BAC above zero if you are under 22 in Ontario is $500 plus ignition lock device at your expense. So basically this amounts to a $500 tax on having a beer or even a piece of chocolate mousse! Anyone who thinks that this new law is about public safety is grossly mistaken. the european model of alcohol management is the way to go, but alas, that wouldnt generate revenue like this will! |
