It would be interesting if Beatport had the actual download numbers up for each track.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with producers (famous or not) using loops; but, as has been mentioned,

I don't know, stuff like this just goes to show that it really is about the marketing. I don't know why I'm surprised, though, its not like any other type of music follows a different set of rules. Pop, rap, rock, metal, it's ALL about the marketing.

Its not like its anything new either. I remember at the record store, I'd go through the "top ten" or "featured releases" from supposedly respectable labels and about 8 out of 10 of them were garbage. I'd be like WTF??? Why the hell is this a "featured release"? It's terrible! Yet when I looked at the sales (I worked there part time) they showed that a lot of DJ's still bought the stuff. Meanwhile, I'm there ordering all this dope trance and progressive and my sales would consistently lag behind the house and hip-hop guys. So many records I ordered are widely considered trance classics today, but they sold poorly compared to the other genres at the time.

I mean, I know there is no accounting for taste, and I certainly don't expect everyone else to like the same things I like, but isn't there a "lowest common denominator" of quality somewhere? I mean how many people are buying this track to put it at #1 and how many of these people are seriously sitting there listening to it on the Beatport preview going "Yeah man, that's some dope from Angello?"

I don't know, maybe I'm just in the minority here or out of touch with what today's kids really want.

Marketing indeed, and also the name recognition factor. You have to wonder where this track would be on the chart if some nobody released it on some nobody label.

Also, I think my sig very much applies to this track. :p

Thats exactly right. I hate to show my age here, but how many of the people buying this stuff are just "posers" (if you're old enough to remember that term)? Just buying the stuff because of the name that's on it, and not caring what it sounds like. Certainly that is not possible, is it?

Meh, I dunno if it's about being a poseur or not. Beats me why anyone would buy this, really. It seems like these kind of stupidly catchy tracks with somewhat obnoxious riffs are always most popular in summer. Remember "Heater?"

I agree, if someone else used that loop in that way and signed to another label, even a lesser known producer it wouldnt make the number 1 spot. It also helps that Swedish house Mafia had another number 1 with "One" feat pharrel williams very recently, which also had global commerical success. With that under your belt who needs marketing for this track lol.

The track isnt anything special and I assume angello would probably agree, but I can see why people would like it. It will work on the dance floor and in the clubs. As mentioned, a summer track.

Why do people like any genre or track? theres always going to be someone who does, even if you cant understand why.

This all boils down to how an established dj/producer used the loop in that way from such a popular sample pack. The more I think about it the more I think it was done on purpose for a joke or to generate debates and discussions just like this. Or something?

Its not like he needs the money, the number 1 @ beatport or the recognition.

Us talking about it is marketing at work!
