Plenty of people do. In fact, a majority of the American population believe in the traditional definition. Sure some traditions are outdated, but what the ... traditions also preserve culture and replacing the old with the new isn't always right. Besides, gay people can marry- it's called a Civil Union and it is the exact same thing under the law as marriage is for heterosexuals. Can I join the Girl Scouts as a boy? Oh that! Discrimination!!
|
The "traditional" definition of marriage is a contract between two families usually used for political means. Love and sex had nothing to do with it, it was all just political . It's only been recently that all this romantic stuff has existed in marriage. Marriages now are quite different to how they used to be.
Why does allowing it to be two people of the same sex destroy anything important? Allowing people to love is bad? Why? |

I thought you'd pick up that my reply was an answer to that question. Yes the 14th amendment is being violated in my opinion if any human being is not afforded equal rights as another. I just simply believe "civil union" and "marriage" are 2 separate but equal things for 2 separate but equal groups. |
So segregation in the south was okay? |

Sorry, so because I don't think the founders were the most awesome and important people ever everything I learned in History went over my head? |
You're just an ingrate. I don't have to tell you why. Anybody could read these remarks of yours and discern that. |

Ahh, good one. The old, "it's obvious, so I don't have to explain," excuse.
Really, nice ad hominem. No need to explain anything when you can just attack the person instead! |

I said I didn't have to, but I still did, didn't I? |

I'm not saying that I disagree with you, but people are going to jump on that and twist your words. |
Segregation was separate but unequal btw ;) |

| So if it was equal would you be fine with it? |

But it wasn't. |

I recommend more ad hominems about stuff you don't know about, personally. |

Right now I'm doing one of these things that's called a "hypothetical."
I'm asking if it was equal, would you be okay with it? |

Kevin, I'd still like to see your opinion on the two questions below. Not so much for the sake of arguing, moreso that I can understand your point of view.

Other than the issue of homosexual marriage, what "traditions" are being radically de-constructed? Times change, traditions change and people, society and cultures evolve. Why can't we adapt traditions to reflect our current society? If we keep the core values of these traditions alive, where is the harm?
In addition, why is it such a terrible thing for homosexuals to be considered "married" to each other? Yeah, I get that it's not "traditional", but one thing that I have never understood amongst this fervored debate throughout the years is why so many people see the concept as vile. Can you explain that to me? I'm not trying to be rude here, it's just something that I have simply never understood. |
