Ahhh yes, New York City. A fantastic place to visit... the culture, the restaurants, the social scene; all world class.
On the other hand, this is also typical:

Bedbug City: 1 in 10 New Yorkers has grappled with bedbugs in their home

Bedbugs are taking over New York.

A new Daily News-Marist poll suggests that The City That Never Sleeps is probably too busy itching: One in 10 New Yorkers has now battled bedbugs in their home.

That's twice as many as the city estimated were plagued by the pests in 2009.

The poll results suggest that more than 800,000 New Yorkers have had bloodsucking bedbugs crawling in their sheets.

"I got all chewed up," said Margaret Martinez, 61, of the Bronx, one of the 11% of poll respondents who reported having personal run-ins with the tiny bloodthirsty insects.

"I woke up and I had bites all over my arms and my face. I was all swollen," she said.

From swanky glass lofts to creaky tenement walkups, the plague of parasites appears to have spread fairly evenly across the five boroughs.

Ten percent of respondents in Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn reported bedbugs at work, as did 8% of Bronx residents, but just 3% of Manhattanites were afflicted.

I know New Yorkers are quite proud of living there. But seriously, don't you ever want to leave that concrete jungle of dirtiness and congestion for cleaner greener places!? :nervous:

Hey dude- I love visiting NYC. I always have a great time and there's an endless supply of to do. But living there?? That's gotta shave years off your life. Whenever I return from a trip there, I feel a little grimey and definitely more tense. :toocool:

Wish I had bedbugs.

Would be the only live thing I've had in my bed for ages :(

my girl and i were actually planning on taking a short vacation out to manhattan this weekend but couldn't find adequate lodgings without paying an arm and a leg. definitely not regretting the parasites, however.

I blame all the terrorists... I am tourists that visit the city.

i love nyc. i grew up around smelling garbage, insect infestations, and heat all year round. nyc is the previous minus the consistent overbearing heat. :stongue:

I lived there for a year in the upper east side in a one bedroom apartment. I hardly remember bugs being an issue other than hearing it in the media. I cleaned the bathroom about every two weeks along with the kitchen and floors and always removed the garbage when the can filled up. Some people can't follow simple cleaning rules so you can guess who sleeps with the bedbugs.

Good to have an AC in the summer but then you gotta pay ConEd $$$$
