I actually quit as part of a broader detox...the process of decaffination adds a number of toxins to the end product. So no decaf either (although at 10 this morning I caved and had a half caf half decaf...I couldn't function at work at all.)

hm, so I have been googling around for more pros and cons of coffee for the past little while and I'm not toosure you need to completely cut it out! :)

same here! Tho while I was on vacation, I'd just have one in the morning and be ok, i.e. no headaches. I think it's as much about the ritual as it is the drug.

All of that aside, at the end of the day your body is being tricked by a stimulant to be productive. It ultimately encourages your own metabolism to get lazy, because it "waits" for the caffeine to come get things going. It's just another thing for your liver to process.

God knows my liver has seen worse things run through it than coffee but not as regularly as the good ol java.

If you drink enough to be worried about cirrhosis, coffee is the least of your concerns. For a regular person I don't believe the benefits necessarily outweigh the cons...my own detox effort last week inspired a friend of mine to try cold turkey too, and he nearly choked! It's alarming what kind of withdrawl there is. I won't give up coffee forever but I hadn't realized what a drug it is.

I guess it all depends on your personal daily consumption levels and how strong the coffee is
I can't drink the full cop of brewed coffee unless it's a latte or something - otherwise I have 1 cup of instant coffee during the weekend

but you did mentiond 1-3 grandes a day - are we talking just brewed coffee or sweet stuff too, like Mochas and whatnot?

I personally cut out ALL Starbucks for the next few months - I started gaining weight after overloading with mochas and lattes for the past few months :\

i "quit" after i stopped working at starbucks during university. i would probably drink the equivalent of 4-5 shots of espresso a day (while at work, which was around 5 days out of the week). i was seriously grumpy for the first week, but after that it was fine. i put the word quit in quotations because i absolutely love coffee but i really only drink it on the weekends anymore (mainly because the stuff at work is vile and i can't be arsed to make it at home before leaving my house). actually, come to think of it, the reason i stopped having it every day in the first place was because that office's coffee was revolting as well.

so after reading this crap I have cut my minimum of 2 coffees a day (well days I work) down to 1 coffee in the morning... thanks for ruining it for me... btw I did get the headache thing a little bit

coffee is ed and you don't really understand until you haven't had it in 15 months and then drink one out of the blue.

whatever caffeine is said to be in tea, the actual effect from drinking tea is minute... doesn't even compare!

/done with coffee for the most part since beginning of '08 after cold turkeying it - only have it occasionally as my version of an energy drink - it comes complete with the palpitations!

Those things are deadly - my coffee was either straight drip starbucks or americanos with milk, no sugar.
