Toronto People?

Just curious as to what everyone thinks of people from Toronto (in general). I am from a smallish town and came to Toronto for university. During university I thought people from Toronto were great and was wondering why there was all those stereotypes out there of Toronto people being cold, unfriendly, tight-assed, etc... but now that I look back on it, none of my friends from university were actually from Toronto (they hadn't grown up here).

Then I started working in Toronto (financial district) I finally encountered real Toronto people, only to realize that Toronto people (in general) do actually suck. Everyone who I do like turns out to be from some smaller town (like Kingston or Guelph, etc.).

Is this true of Toronto People or did I just get unlucky and get stuck with a bunch of cold, bitchy, materialistic, tightassed people who don't know how to have fun?

why would you care if they are cold or tightassed and not having fun? as long as you have the right people around you, who cares how cold or whatever is around you?

every city has rude and cold people

I've had this discussion sooooo many times :) where I come from people are cold and mind their own business and won't look you in the eye for the most part, so when I moved here I was pleasantly surprised how friendly and open everyone is

financial district is a bad example to judge Torontonians by - it's a busy area where everyone is to and from work/meetings/gym/home

I find the best way to see how people are is to take public transit around the city

I am not saying I don't enjoy living in Toronto. I really do and know tons of cool people.

I just see a big difference between people who grew up in Toronto and people who didn't. Most of my friends in Toronto aren't actually from here.

Was this in downtown? I always find that people who live in the city have a harder and tougher shell than those who live in the suburbs, small town, or the countryside. This is mainly because people in the city have a lot more to deal with which has made them the way they are whereas people elsewhere are more relaxed, feel safer, and don't have to deal with the nonsense of city life.

Seriously haha :) I don't know how people deal with people there

And agreed - I think people who either live downtown or grew up here tend to be more inward. Small town peeps are definitely the more open, ready to strike a random conversation kind of people

I've heard its actually getting better down there. My roommate and his GF went down there recently and one of their main comments was that people were a lot friendlier down there... maybe it was just the specific area they were in.

I think it really depends on the people you run into. You're going to find rude people everywhere.

I also find that locals are generally nicer to tourists.

you got it... most people i know here arent originally from here. Some people who move here become dickwads though over time.

Toronto is a very insecure city and this is why everyone is always so defensive and inward and dare i say it, socially inept.

People not from here tend to get it. People who are from here don't. So dont try to argue the point with a true torontonian because they wont understand.
