I know many people around here that keep pigs as pets. Would that make pork immoral in Brazil then? |
I used the term "culturally repulsive". 99.9% of Americans find eating a cat or dog repulsive. |

I know. That's why I asked about your opinion on eating an animal that is sometimes kept as a pet, but in another country, as it clearly doesn't apply to the US :conf: |

You're implying an absolute standard and I'm not. What is acceptable in one country may not be in another. The only absolute I'm applying is the humane treatment of animals. |

Pigs are gross and ugly. And their orgasms last 30 min. So I envy them and hate them.
Therefore I have no sympathy for pigs being eaten. :o |

No, I'm not. I'm asking you if, in Brazil, solely in a Brazilian context, and exclusively in this country where I happen to live and pigs are both kept as pets and eaten voraciously, if it is immoral to eat pork. Is it? Here, a pig is a pet devoured by potential owners.

I don't think so, because pork is voraciously consumed around the world, it is not the case with cats and dogs. So the idea of eating your pig pet is more 'digestible', so to speak, because eating pig is considered 'normal' and acceptable everywhere. |

lets hope they don't run out of pets.
mang the chinese probably eat better than I do (may still have a 1 up on the north koreans though.
fact is a dog and cat is no different than a cow snake or rhino.
just cuase you eat it doesn't make it any less emotive and real, and mamillian. It is our own species ( acouple times removed)!
Personally I'd have no issue with eating any animal that died of natural causes --- conditions of farm animals are horendous -- religions like hinduism, jainism etc.. are suppose to hold animals such as the cow as sacred and with ahimsa all animals as tainted thus not consumed.
(I'm all do honour to the animal) I'm not a person to slaughter or murder sensed animals though) I'm a little uncertain about clams and snails though??? Turtle was definately off limits.. but for some reason snails were fine and clams were vaugely questionable.. that is,, do clams have brains? Or are they meat in a dish? |

No it isn't. Like I said, the only absolute I'm applying is the humane treatment of animals. I couldn't care less if you kept a chicken as a pet, and then chopped its head off to eat it. Just as long as the chicken isn't essentially, tortured, before its death. |

Actually, I don't have a cat :p
But the same argument could be made if I had a pet calf. Right? |
I stopped reading here so forgive me if I'm regurgitating content that's already been covered, but I think this becomes a very valid argument if we're talking about pork. Cows are ing retarded. Pigs are comparably and in some cases more intelligent than dogs. The inhumanity of slaughtering our favorite pets for nourishment is only so because they're domesticated - we recognize and enjoy their intelligence. As much as I love a fat piece of bacon, factory-fresh pork is rather ed up.
Edit: I'm wayyy late :stongue: |
