Well, music is a subjective experience in the end. If you don't feel it, you don't feel it. It's not a statement on you or the music, but it is what it is. However, for a person who likes house it's almost tragic you can't feel that tune - referring to RJ here. But, like I said it is what it is and it's not a poor reflection on you or the music.

As for the crowds at techno parties I would definitely not construe them as hipsters - it's usually only heads that get it. Chin stroking refers to male techno heads that don't dance and just hang at the back and do what they do - sometimes enjoying the music, or in the worst cases critiquing every little thing around them from the set, to the crowd, the venue, etc...

In the end if you really do prefer happy hardcore to some of the music in this thread then all I can say is - not everybody understands (*house*) techno music. Cheers.

* Reference to Eddie Amador's track which you probably know

hey bud. i sense a tinge of sadness in your post. i honestly didn't mean to make you sad or put down techno or you. don't worry, you seem nice. :) i like all types of music and some of the funnest nights i have had at typical "techno" parties.

i am patiently waiting for Swamper (the owner of the site) to come here and just tell everyone to stop categorizing music and saying that one type is better than another.

Oh and i thought that Il DUCE was Deacon_Ran's friend since they sort of joined at the same time. :conf:

One final note on this particularly aggravating intrusion on my thread. I know I may come off as arrogant and off putting as if I have some sort of penultimate vibe when I party, but that's not me. More than a few DJs have told me to off with an evil eye or ill timed scratch or EQ work - Joe Clausell at Roxy Blu and Terence Parker at System come to mind - and that's OK. I know I can be over the top and a bit much, but the best parties are when the DJ and the crowd feed off each other taking the vibe to a ballistic climax. Maybe that's why I like partying with talented locals these days because they seem to get it more than the superstars. Cheers all.

I'm not sad that you don't like techno. :) It's like I said before in that music appreciation is subjective and there's no judgement on any one person or any particular type of music genre. Honestly, I was just foolhardy in thinking I can convert a few more females to techno. Maybe Skipper, C, v-vaughn, and the other girls here who like techno can add to the conversation and let us know what it is about this music that gets them going. Cheers.

Very nice selection. Never knew of that track before and always associated Mauro Picotto with trance - Lizard, Iguana, etc.. This one is an all out techno banger. Cheers.

Mauro Picotto - Bug is another brilliant track from that era!
Magnetonium

You guys first have to understand the logic behind converting mainstream-loving people into techno, get into their heads. As a TOP 40 DJ, I understand how they think. You gotta start them with the cheesy vocal/rap techno tracks first. You dont get into the raw and hard sound of detroit techno right away - 12 years ago I couldn't stomach the sound, I started off with euro and house (then trance) first. And besides, there are much more beautiful detroit gems out there:

From 1992:

I converted some friends into electronic music friendly folks, but in steps.

Here's an example of the kind of tracks you have to throw at them:

Mr. X & Mr. Y - Global Players (My Name Is Techno)
