Hah, don't tell that to anyone else in this forum, they won't believe you... ;)

I'm not gonna lie, and I REALLY don't want to start more drama, but I wasn't feeling the tracks you posted in the first set except Carl Craig's Throw which has always been a personal favorite. Hopefully, you also adhere to the music appreciation is a subjective experience adage.

Now this second set of tracks are unbelievable. It's that crossroads of techno and house that only old school Detroit DJs bring to a party. I saw Kevin Saunderson at the Social last year as well as Alan Oldham at the Basement and these tracks reminded me of those nights. A lot of the old school Detroit techno DJs play this style at times - Derrick May at Bauhaus in '94 or so and countless D. Wynn sets when I was at school in London, On - and last year was the first time in a long time I heard that sound since my youth.

...and while Mills laid the groundwork for much of what we hear in Techno, there are about a dozen DJs I'd book ahead of him if I wanted to "tear someone a new ". His Live At The Liquid Room days are well behind him, he currently plays on a totally different bent.

...and I still hold occasional events where this kind of music is at the forefront for the evening, usually featuring underground locals who've been at it since the Transcendance days you mentioned.

Not sure where Mills is at now, but if I went to go see him I would want to hear the Jeff Mills of 'Live At The Liquid Room' - an alltime favorite set. Saw him only once at a big two or three room rave in TO - I don't remember which party or what venue - but I do remember hearing classic Mills destroying the place and dancing beside 5-0 who kept giving me a wtf look. Awesome memory. Missed him at Industry when he was there because of a huge snowstorm and I think that was the last time he was around these parts.

With regard to your final comments - always the promoter :) I know you from Tribe, but I'm not sure you know me - we had a few exchanges about the parties you threw at that sports bar in the west end. We'll see - these days I go out when I feel like it and check the listings to see what's up. It's rare I actually plan to party anymore for whatever reason, but I have to give you some respect for dishing it to Kyfe in his 'I got the flow, now tell me where I can spend my Benjamins and you can't thread'. I still lurk there and there's some good people still posting, but it reminds me of the post-hippie age of the '70s where everyone grew up and kind of just fell in with the establishment. No judgement here for that, but I like it on TA where most of the partiers are at. TOTA FTW.
LightsOut

You guys first have to understand the logic behind converting mainstream-loving people into techno, get into their heads. As a TOP 40 DJ, I understand how they think. You gotta start them with the cheesy vocal/rap techno tracks first. You dont get into the raw and hard sound of detroit techno right away - 12 years ago I couldn't stomach the sound, I started off with euro and house (then trance) first. And besides, there are much more beautiful detroit gems out there:

You're kind of getting where I'm trying to go, but not quite there. I'm trying to get to the people who like EDM, not mainstream dance, and haven't gotten into techno YET. If I can like trance - not my favorite genre, but I can get into it at times - then I figure there are young dubsteppers, trance addicts, electro heads, and the like who can breathe fresh air into the techno scene. Nothing beats the experience of discovering something for the first time. Cheers.
