Test your ultra-high hearing

Here you go, guys, a little test of your ultra-high hearing:

http://jbj.raceriv.com/sounds/ta/test_14kHz_20kHz.wav

Seven tones, faded in and out so that their attack phase does not give them away.

14 kHz, 15 kHz, 16 kHz, 17 kHz, 18 kHz, 19 kHz, 20 kHz.

Me: I can easily hear the first three, but just barely hear something on the fourth tone (17 kHz). After that, I am gone. Probably about normal for someone who is twenty-six and has experienced ringing ears after a few club nights.

Which tone do you guys crap out on? Anyone still able to hear all of them clearly?

It helps if you do this in a player with no graphic indications of volume. That way you will be a bit less likely to fool yourself about whether you can hear the tones.

interesting, i get ringing too.

im not using headphones at the moment, i can hear the first 4, 5th+ no dice. on headphones i get to 5, and no dice after that.

ill be 24 soon.

I can hear up to 20 pretty well, I've tried one of these before that went up to 25k, I couldn't hear past 21 but I did feel pressure in my ears up to 23k

Being 19 has its advantages I guess.

What a drag it is getting old.

genetics ftw

I can guarantee most well known engineers are not hearing past 16 k. You aren't missing out.

It's not. You're just not old enough to appreciate it, yet.

I need to discover some of that old man wisdom.

Teach me, Eddie and cryo!

i can hear up to 18khz. However, that 18khz just barely. Then nothing. I'm 27 and using only headphones all the time.. Some times too loud too :P
Raphie
most people stop around 18Khz.... hearing 23Khz is something that should get you in the book of records..

i love this because there's always some jackass who thinks he can hear all the way up to 28khz or some

I last until 17.

Ha! Well, most audio equipment drops off quite dramatically after 20 kHz anyway, and you need a higher than normal sample rate to store anything above 22 kHz in an audio file.
