I think it's worth noting that we have been pushed from a mandated 3:30am closing time, to a 2:30am mandated closing time. |
Wow, really? Sounds like part of the master plan....get even more drunk people out the door - as soon as possible after 2am - so you can further justify the necessary police presence...for all the problems that ensue...problems that can only increased by such a mandate. |

The closing time in Toronto has varied widely over the last 15-20 years.. There was definitely a big push against anything late night back in the 90s, but if we don't take a stand we'll be forced to chug our drinks by 2:15 and out the door by 2:30.. |

Yup,
Adam Vaughan is by far a great supporter of restaurants and daytime commercial endeavours.. I didn't see anything in that list that stays open past 11pm.. Though i understand he pulled some strings to help the Supermarket in Kensington (a restaurant with rock bands)
Like I said, I am quoting Spencer, the manager from Nocturne.
I'll see if i can check out what toronto d.j.s you have listed in your vote. As a dubstep and Glitch hop fan, if Ill Gates isn't in the list then i probably won't bother. |

really? how so? the way it is now, as soon as more than a couple of people gather the cops can bust it up and arrest everyone inside.
|
Uh, I've been to plenty of outright-illegal parties (i.e. ones held in abandoned warehouses), and when busted, at worst the promoter would be stuck with a few hundred dollars worth of fines (for trespassing and all that), and everyone goes home. In illegally held outdoor parties, they're simply broken up and the attendees are told to leave. The only cases I've ever heard of everyone being detained/arrested were the raids on CZ and that place on Dundas (name escapes me)...not "underground", in other words.

Whats this? Is this just for Nocturne, certain venues, new ones, what? Because how would that explain events at the Guv or a ton of other clubs going to 6, 7, 8, etc. in the morning? |

I kinda see why Adam Vaughan goes to such length to change the entire downtown lifestyle. Obviously he is trying to cater to all the upscale condo dwellers, who abandoned the dead quiet of Muskoka to turn downtown Toronto into one. These new wealthy "neighbors" want to live in a downtown environment, while still calling the shots on what should particularly surround them. With a strong determination to reside within glamour and prestige, these people would clean up anything that in their opinion is of "filth". Needless to mention, Toronto nightlife falls into that category. Of course Adam Vaughan impatiently wiggles his tail to serve the needs of his clientele. The "clientele", in their turn, keep Mr. Vaughan in his seat, and load him up with cash to make him forget his miseries of being a servant dog to his wealthy masters. dboom, its pointless to argue with Adam Vaughan, as he only listens to one side of the story - the money! However, one thing Adam forgets. The crowd that he so desperately tries to kick out onto the street by shutting down the venue- it ain't going nowhere. It would relocate somewhere underground, reviving the somewhat forgotten movement of clandestine music scene. The scene will grow, and eventually we will get a slightly modified by a decade rave movement v2.0 (whether it will grow as large as in the 90s or not, is another matter).
You've done it, Mr. Adam Vaughan. Thank you for reviving the rave scene in our town :). |

I just got this in my inbox regarding that email posted above:

I spoke with the John (Unique) Tsmouris tonight. He told me someone in his office sent an unauthorized email in support of Adam Vaughan through his (Uniqulifestyle) data base. John has apologized and will look into the matter. Adam Vaughan is trying everything he can to slow my momentum as I have taken the lead in the polls. He has become so desperate that he is now begging for support from the very industry he has sought to destroy. |
(I edited out email addresses only) |

meh, he'll probably get re-elected because he does his job well.
Most of the people who support the "entertainment district" paradigm are people who go there to party on weekends such as myself but I really don't give a sh!t about the actual neighbourhood or people who live there. I go party and leave when it's done.
But it's the businesses/residents in the area who have to put up with all the crap that get's left behind. Adam Vaughan as the rep for those people who actually live there should definitely be trying to reign it all in.
I wish he won't and let the entertainment district grow with as few rules as possible, but that's cause only I don't have to live there. |
