I was wondering, how come there's soo little events where we have Progressive house dj's? We have all sorts of house music @ Stereo...but no progressive house. I'm sure that the majority of House music lovers would enjoy progressive. I understand that booking Sasha or Digweed every month would be very very expensive but I think that the Montreal scene is not giving that much of an effort. But I'm still unsure on why we're not booking that many progg dj's.
It's not all bad because the past month or so was preety good. Big props to whoever booked Hernan to Black and Blue, because he was epic. He has shown that he was a true master and a lot of people enjoyed from the reviews that i've read. Props to Circus aswell for booking Henry Saiz, because his set was very very good. Other then that, I guess I'll have to wait another 2-3 months until I see another dj that will play a proper progg set :S.
Enjoy
prog is dead
even mcprog is dead

Prog is definitely not dead. Not anymore.
Hopefully I'll be able to get in on the scene at one point or another and spin some quality progressive house somewhere. But trust me, it's not just Montreal, people I think are asking the same question in other places. Sadly at the moment, while there is quite a bit of good progressive house being made, it is mostly relegated to cyberspace in the form of podcasts and online radio shows, while in clubs it is represented only by a handful of big DJs (Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, etc...).
You should check out Christian Smith though when he comes to Circus. Also, I'm pretty sure Tone Depth spins some good progressive house.
tech house is just the popular thing at the moment
it'll come back :D

I'm glad to see that some people think that it's not dead :). But do you guys think that a good line up of good progg djs, it could fill out a massive?

You'll always catch some dark chuggy prog mixed into techno/tech house sets here and there, but if you're talking about a real melodic trancy type set, your best bet would be at Passeport on the progressive nights. These types of sets don't work well in after hours because people want big basslines.
Saiz's set was ing off the hook, but he didn't exclusively play prog, he mixed techno and tech house as well..
Cid Inc. podcast, my fav prog house producer right now.
Amazing set soo far Adam, just finished the first hour, is there any way that you could post the track list ? :)

First, let me say that Montreal has never been a major city for prog house. I remember going to Stereo when they used to have prog nights every Friday and, quite often, they would bring a big name dj and the club was not even close of being full. The same djs would play in Toronto the very next day and fill up the club where they were playing. Of course, if djs like Digweed and Sasha were booked, it was a full house but even guys like Hernan Cattaneo and James Holden (back when he was playing mostly prog tracks)could not attract a big crowd. It was even more obvious when lesser known prog djs were in town (I went for John Creamer once and my guess is that we were approximately 200 people out that night) or when only local djs were playing.
You also have to consider that most of the so called 'prog djs' have evolved and are now playing a mix of different styles in their sets (mostly tech-house and techno). Of course, you still have the odd guys still sticking to the same formula (Cattaneo and Nick Warren come to mind) but most of them have found interest in varying what they are playing (which is a good thing, if you ask me).
As for the productions, my personnal opinion is that good prog house tracks are hard to find as most of the stuff that is released sounds like watered down (and slower) trance. However, they are lots of nice tracks that have the same kind of sound and structure as prog house, even if they are not categorized as prog house.
