Yes, which the other article I cited talked about.

Okay. That was not apparent from the abstract, and I do not have access to the full article.

There is no credible way to correlate attitude with anything because there is no credible way to measure attitude. Also, no one who thinks there's such a thing as "spiritual well-being" should be taken seriously.

Support for null hypothesis is not needed unless someone does studies that contradict it, but the papers you linked deal with things like depression and attitude toward death, not effect of attitude on physical state.

Did you even read the articles? Both talk about attitudes, beliefs, resources etc. and how these things can impact their physical state.

I don't have access to the full articles.

I cited sources that support what I am saying. It's not like I am pulling stuff out of my ass. Maybe their research is wrong... I don't know, but personally, I believe that it has some weight.

With that being said, I am open to different perspectives. Do you have any articles that support what you're saying?

EDIT:

Forgive me for not just taking your word on it, but I'd like to read it for myself.

The point is that you can't comprehend the full scope of the experience of health/wellness/illness just by reading a few arguments. If it were that easy, they wouldn't make us go to school for FOUR YEARS to understand the complexities of it all.

I'm not asking you to take my word. I'm just telling you you're wrong. Not fully wrong, just mostly wrong.

Actually, Theresa is a psychology student. Albeit an undergraduate (?), she's not exactly just a laywoman who happens to like pop-psychology books.

Edit: Incidentally, I often feel at odds with psychologists around me for believing things that sound too far-fetched. Perhaps the best answer I've ever had came from a friend who happens to be an undergraduate - psychology students usually get in the field because "they want to understand the mind" and "help others"... and these ideas seem to be popular amongst "spiritual/religious" folks. Her hypothesis seems to work pretty well on the psychology majors I know.

I am certain that has something to do with it.

Indeed, I've noticed that a lot of fields seem to suffer from a problem whereby they tend to attract people with patterned biases on the subject matter they're supposed to be studying, which tends to degrade the quality of research and scholarship. Economics and sociology are two of the most obvious examples, but the phenomenon probably affects a large number of disciplines to varying degrees and in varying ways.

Genuine praise, my man. This and the "trance = WWE" analogy have been your finest quips in months.
