I found this 'experiment' incredibly interesting, and I found the take-home message to be rather powerful. Being the skeptical person I often am however, I did a lot of research trying to find things "de-bunking" Emoto's work. I found another experiment he did:
Interesting videos. Though a lot of variables in the experiments. I might just give it a shot.

I considered doing it myself. You would have to boil the jars, lids, and spoon, scoop out some rice, toss it, rinse and sterilize the spoon and then scoop from the exact same location and use that rice, repeat. To ensure there wasn't any sub-conscious preference, have someone mix up the jars and THEN label them.
I would like to see Mythbusters take this one on. It would be good to 1. debunk it and expose Emoto for the fraud he is, or 2. prove it and try to figure out wtf is going on.

Anyone remember the video where this Dr. whatever chick explained about the equivalence of energy and light? She derived it from Einstein's E=mc^2 by saying we're so small and insignificant in the universe that m is practically zero, therefore only E = c^2 remains (!) and light can transport positive energy or something.
I laughed and raged at the same time, wish I could find it. Was posted here some time ago.

You know that Mythbusters is even less scientific than hippy pseudoscience, don't you?

The problem with positive and negative energy believers is a fatalistic perception that things will come what may, depending on just how much happy/unhappy thoughts they're carrying around.
If you truly believe, may as well throw your lot in with the god botherers and other spiritual cretins that think good things will happen to them even if they're intellectually lazy and do nothing but keep thinking.
There are only two things that achieve anything-
Persistence and Determination.
Both those will see you through whatever lack of talent, intelligence and education has left you bereft of other options.

Yeah I was going to say something similar to Lil. While it's partially true that we are easily influenced by the input we receive, it's also true that any rational person is aware of the connection between their environment and their thoughts/actions/choices. Positivity/optimism/whatever the doesn't manifest itself passively in people's lives. The problem with this theory is the way it's comparable to religion, in that it absolves people of being accountable for how/why they think and feel and react the way they do. It's an insult to consciousness. Which is what makes it sound like a crock of to me.

Edit: This could make a fascinating linguistic research topic for you, Lira. I mean, how is it even possible to arrange mere words to something that is so incredibly stupid as this 8 minute babble. It's like the golden ratio of the english language, a special configuration of words so inane and retarded that they surpass every stupidity that could be formed by normal means.

I don't think the words "negative" or "positive" have any descriptive content in this context, so the idea boils down to a whole lot of nothing.
