Welcome fellow doctors to todays exciting medical mystery case. This weeks patient is a renowned Eurodance DJ and altogether awesome guy: me.

So this year I managed to get my lazy ass off the couch and started jogging. I got better and better, but now I suddenly have trouble with my left knee. After about 12 mins of running it suddenly starts hurting and I need to stop. No pain during normal, everyday use. When I stop the pain is almost immediately gone but returns when I try running again, while walking is OK. I didn't do any exercise for about a month and hoped it would go away, but it didn't.

Any idea what this could be? Will it go away after some time (seems it doesn't)? What could have caused it and why does it only hurt after some time of exercise and disappear so fast when I stop? At first I thought of lupus, but everyone knows that it's never lupus. Should I see an orthopedic specialist?

you are too fat for your knees. go for a run.
Mr.Mystery
Do an MRI.

Rabdomyolisis.

Get better running shoes. Oh, and ice your knee after each run. Be sure to do ample amounts of stretching before actually running (without overstretching) so that you prevent injury. And while you're at it, talk to a doctor.

I always did stretching and have running shoes, albeit cheap ones.
I'm a bit unsure about going to the doctor for something I only feel after 10 mins of exercise, but maybe that's what I should do.

Oh, and Rabdomyolisis is ruled out as there are no kidney problems and brown urine. :p

Lupus, clearly.

It's not lupus.
Mr.Mystery
Sarcoidosis?

Sounds like you strained it. Pretty common injury if you haven't used those muscles in a while...or ever. Get one of those elastic knee braces for when you exercise.

I won't exercise much during the winter I presume. So you say it'll go away after some time without adding further stress to it?
