So i guess i can say i dont even like his music selections.. I guess its a matter of taste... but to each is own.. The only tune he had on there that was decent was bt- flaming june.. which im not big on him either..Download some airscape, armin, or vincent de moor, and u may change your mind..And if you dont like them.. then it is definitely a matter of taste...for they are in a different league!!!!Name one tune by paul van dyke that is a 10, for i can make a list for the artist i named..

Vor Sprung Dyk Technik is a Masterpiece of all his remixes. Most of those tracks are classics. That album does NOT represent how he sounds live. U can't judge a DJ on a studio/computer made mixed cd. That was his earlier sound.

Listen to classics like Love Stimulation, Rendevous, Forbidden Fruit, For An Angel, Another Way, Avenue, Face to Face, Out there & Back. He produces the most intense, emotional, powerful muzik. He's definately uplifting. He's brought me & many others to tears.
I don't like tracks that are obvious & have a cheesy predictable build up every 2 minutes. I suggest u dl some live sets or see him live before u make such ignorant statements.

Nicely said Twilo...
I have to say he is one of my favorite artist and His track For An Angel is just so beautiful words can't even describe..that song is what brought me into trance musik.. I dont think he is progressive at all... he just plays amazing electronic musik..as PVD like to call it..:):)
I havent had the chance to listen to him live yet..but I will this summer..I can't wait!!!

Well i used to be the same way as you Euro!!! .... PVD LIVE IS JUST SIMPLY THE BEST!!!! and there is no exeptions!!!..some come close to his status but he is the best!!!! and i dont think his tunes are commerical or mainstream at all..... Melodic and Epic trance is more easier to understand and liked then PVD progressive melodies!!!.... i used to think PVD only had one good song which was For An Angel..but when you just lay back and listen to his productions ..and have an experiance ear for quality tunes...you can really feel the depth of his Tracks!!!! his melodies might be very low key and not very strong...but they are deeper then any melodies you can find out there ..which are totally amazing.....and about Buildups...many progressive tunes have amazing buildups....
PVD - Tell my why (Vandit mix) ...has an amazing buildup!!!...here are some PVD tunes that i think are just Masterpieces!!!
PVD - For An Angel
PVD - Face to Face
PVD - Pikes
PVD - Out there and back
PVD - Another Way
and others!!
These tunes just give me chills on my back..and when ever i see pvd live and hear them live ..its just GODLLY!!!!
Euro i understand where you comming form your a straight EPIC/MELODIC type of person and i was the same way... but good progressive trance trax arnt tunes that you just have to hear once to full appreciate....there tune where it takes time and a lot of listening to really feel the depth of them!! but when a progressive tune hits you ..usually you will like it more then a epic/melodic track!!!Thats just my thoughts of it!!! so give his tunes a chance if you dont want to then thats your deal...but PVD overrated hes far from Overrated...i think hes Underrated.....

ohh yeah one more thing..... when you have a chance to see him live go see him!!! cuz that will help you understand!!

are u in kidding me???

Love Stimulation, Rendevous, Another Way, For An Angel, Face to Face, Together We will conquer, ALL have strong, powerful, HEART-WRENCHING (Tear Jerking) Melodies. When Pvd played Another Way in Feb, I started crying.

Pvd's sets are magic! He's IN-IN-CREDIBLE LIVE! He'll take U on a beautiful, emotional, powerful rollercoaster. 1 minute, ur dancing ur ass off the next u can be on the verge of tears. He manipulates the crowd like no other besides Sasha & Junior Vasquez. I'm planning my entire Ibiza trip around seeing him at Cream, Amnesia at the end of Aug. :)
breakdown
pvd is not overrated.. never is..
if anyone thinks hes overrated.. i dunno where u come from..
land of the Gods perhaps?
hmmmmm his production lately might not be to everyone's expectations..
but overal.. he is underrated

I do not agree that PvD's productions blow. There are many wwhich I love. Here's some of them:

BT "Flaming June"
Age Of Love "Age Of Love" (Love Of Ages Mix)
The Visions Of Shiva "How Much Can You Take?" (Physical)
BT "Blue Skies" (Blauer Himmel Mix)
BT "Remember" (Recollected Mix)
Paul van Dyk "Forbidden Fruit" (East Of Eden Mix)

They may be weak on the build up's but they aren't meant to be. They're a completely different style to the likes of Airscape, Tiesto, Vincent De Moor etc so you can't even really compare them. I was a bit dissapointed with "Out There And Back" and I hate "Tell Me Why" but I love the Album "Seven Ways".

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT?! Out of all the producers out there...he is the most consistant...always quality stuff.

PVD LIVE IS JUST SIMPLY THE BEST!!!! And we all have to agree with it - if we will remember Loveparede 2000 and Mayday 2000 - his tunes were the most amazing, the most definitely SOUNDFULL and non-repititive. I am posting this one not because I am representing his website in russia - simply a lot of peolpe will agree with me...
The most amazing tune of PvD is Another Way, for sure, and also For an Angel and Another Way.

I have never heard PvD spin, but from what u all say he is an amazing DJ.... however, his production bores me. Apart from a few notable exceptions eg. For an angel, Avenue, Namistai (with BT), Love Stimulaton (with humate) and a couple of others they all sound the same. same kick, same snare, same cheesy synth. I bought Vorsprung Dyk Technik on the recommendation of a certain person who shall remain nameless (tu_face :p ) and I've only listened to it once....booooooooring! :o

hmm...yes, pvd's livesets are like no other. his productions are a bit of a bore to me as well with exceptions of course. :D but what producer don't have trackz that bore you to some extent? it's just pvd's style when it comes to actually gettin' down to makin' the music himself. oh well. might not me mine or yours, but others can argue it the other way too. he'll always be a god in my book. :D

hehehe...okay...a "few" excpetions...lol

If you don't like the style...love it or leave it. He is one of the most popular producers in the world so he's doing something right.

You hit it right on the nose... He just sounds boring/same sounds... And all these tunes everyone is mentioning- seven ways, for an angel, forbidden fruit, etc... Yes, ive heard all of them.. and im not impressed... I even have his seven ways album and that blows too... All of his tunes are very average and very monotone.... I dont know how someone can call them 10's...But i respect everyones music taste and to each is own...I guess that if you are one not to be a big fan of progressive... then i can see why you dont like him..
