To those of you calling for more moderation or lamenting the supposed lack thereof: Ask And Ye Shall Receive, but be careful what you wish for.

Near as I can tell, this thread was a totally unreasonable combination of a fluff question ("What is your favourite song?") combined with a demand for an academic level of discourse, ostensibly so that M4B could establish his credibility, a result that he and no doubt everyone else knew right off the bat couldn't possibly be achieved.

I see M4B trying to be polite and answer the question despite the OP's and everyone else's outright refusal (or perhaps inability) to suggest any kind of objective criteria for assessing the quality of M4B's contribution. I see M4B politely trying to explain that the level of education required to discuss the finer points of symphony orchestration and harmony is beyond what most laypeople (including bedroom producers) have. I see people, predictably, ganging up on him and declaring all of his education and experience to be irrelevant and pointless - even when it's obviously fundamental to the discussion at hand!

I see him snapping at the constant goading, and then I see his brief outburst immediately overshadowed by the veritable orgy of snarking delight from the peanut gallery. Ahh ha ha ha, look guys, we got him to freak out again! Hey, shouldn't the mods ban him for being such an ?

So what exactly is it that you want moderated? I guess it's the steadily rising undercurrent of anti-intellectualism in this forum. Richie sees it, I see it, and I'm pretty sure that Cryo and RANN and a number of others here see it too. That's what needs to stop. I'm not pointing fingers but suffice it to say that many people here really need to grow the up.

If you want to believe that education and training aren't necessary to appreciate or produce great music (and who wouldn't want to believe that, if they have very little education or training), then be my guest. Honestly and in all sincerity, best of luck to you, I hope you produce a smash hit as many self-taught producers do. But for god's sake, try to show a modicum of respect to the people who actually know what they're talking about. I have nothing to gain by taking sides, but M4B clearly isn't the one who needs to be moderated here.

Are we clear on this? I think that some of you have gotten way, way too close to this drama, and unfortunately it's my responsibility to be objective. I don't care who's got the biggest ego, I care who is actually acting in good faith. Think about that next time you call for a mod, because if I start suspending people, it might not be the people you expect.

excellent analysis. On top of that, i personally think about half of the audience here is wannabee kiddies, who got thëir "studio" straight out of the Pirate Bay. It shows because they show as easy the same lack of respect to other forumembers and their accomplishments, as to developers and IP.

For them the forum is a social hang out, where they can display their immature provocative rudeness, just because they can.

Don't get me wrong, i love humor and things should not be to serious all the time, but here things very quickly become a pissing contest, not on content, but just who can shout the loudest (read: is going to be most persistant and rude, untill all others have thrown the towell in the ring) I would like THAT behaviour to stop.

RESPECT is not measure in # of years on collage or amount of $ in your bank account - it comes from deep inside of you, from your heart and state of mind, first you have to have respect to yourself than you can respect OTHERS.

True, my point wasn't about being real or rich, as that got nothing to do with it. It's more about the "nu generation" culture.

I used to have jobs on the side, skipping partying, saving up etc in order to buy something, feel proud of ownership en from that having respect for others, as one appreciates how hard it is to get there.

This is regardless of the fact, if someone is musically skilled. The way several people talk here about switching daws, noob / nu generation questions about VSTi's display EXACTLY the lack of that kind of respect.

That's one side.....
The other side is that some of the people decribed above actually evolved towards a "stage II" and now act like superproducer, snipering for questions to jump on, with the sole purpose to be rude and derail threads. For them this forum is nothing more than a trolling playground.

So the question that remains... How many stages are there?

I'm trying up a few loose ends for the contest but I figured I would reply to this silly affair.

The problem with you people is that you stumble on to one post where I am rude and there is a very valid reason and for some reason, you use that one post to validate how you feel about me.

Take a look at all my posts. You will find me being rude 1% of the time and in every case, I am either provoked or some person is being a douche. You will also find me helping you out answering questions 80% of the time. The other 19% is being incredibly funny or flirting with palm. it is quite obvious this hatred is coming from some inherent dislike which I can only attribute to my career and qualifications which I only ever talk about when asked which then gets called ego. The only time I ever start going on about how great I am is when you start asking me how good I am. I don't have an ago at work as I am the noob working with world renown people. But just like if you were to play with some kids in grade 3 doing math problems and one of those kids, lets call him Robbie starts giving you , well you get annoyed. I love kids but it is quite hard to explain to someone that just won't understand. Am I great ? no. Do I know more than 99% of you concerning the entire realm of music. Yes. Does it matter ? no. Have I ever claimed it mattered? No. People ask and I reply.

My remarks concerning the amateur hacks are aimed to that specific demography of talentless nitwits for a reason as they seem to be the ones incapable of understanding that some person knows more than them and has a 27 year head start. These people know who they are. The individuals I respect here know I am not grouping them together. I have no issues with people that are not good. I have issues with people that clearly don't know much always goading me to prove myself. You have no idea how hard it is not to reveal all the details much of it bound by NDA as you would feel quite irrelevant quite fast.

I have never seen such a public display of blowing things out of proportion. I said my bit and I meant it. I was quite content to hang out here continuing to answer and help people but it is absolutely embarrassing having to take from some of you. I've earned my dues. I've done my time and that doesn't mean I act like an because I can. The only time that ugly side veers its head is when i'm needlessly confronted with people that I would consider completely new at music trying to undermine opinions with the typical adhominem which is compounded with champagne but I haven't had a glass in weeks. It is really really annoying and I just can't be bothered.

This place has an awful lot of jaded bedroom producers angry at god knows what. Perhaps they are pissed off that they can't get released. Perhaps they hate anyone that is doing better than them. I don't know. I've never rubbed anything in anyone's face unless it was shtick involving tehlord.

I really hope it stops there. I am participating now in this topic because we are discussing the status quo of the forum. But on other topics it really takes away my appetite to provide input. It's just not worth it. You share something, a big ego pisses right over it and co-trollers pick it up from there.

Your options then are:
- ignore > discussion bleads to death
- try to have a conversation > impossible since the loudest opinion will sustain.
- get mad (not on brad :D) troll fest galore, that's what they are waiting for.

It goes better in the past couple of days but the last 2 to 3 months was really bad.

There is nothing wrong of being normal, being average, newbie - talented, brilliant, bright or educated and nothing wrong of having a dream and doing whatever is possible of reaching it – ALL OF THIS IS NORMAL – at the same time I’m in no position to tell someone that he shouldn’t do something he really love to do or change his hobby because he really suck in it – THIS IS ULTIMETLY HIS CHOICE, HIS DECISION.
If you have any massage/comment and you have to say it, even if something is so bad that you can’t stand it, please use your words wisely and respectfully, so you get your massage through and didn’t have to embarrass yourself.

Remember LIVE IS ALWAYS A TWO WAY STREET, you treat someone the same way you want hem/her to treat you!!!

Cheers

Oh, for the love of...
Storyteller
That's exactly what I was thinking too.

Thats precisely what I can't stand is snidy little remarks like mystery and storyteller are doing right now. (are these NOT "long term" members? thats disgraceful imo especially after what digi wrote)

If you 2 can't contribute, and have nothing important to say, why are you even in this thread?

I've have seen neither of you 2 do ANYTHING in this thread but instigate and you're doing it right now. "Oh for the love of" are you kidding me?

SPEAK what your problem is in a civil/sophisticated manner. If you can NOT do that you're not doing anything productive for the forum at all.

This was brilliant, smart, concise, and to the point.
You should NOT expect respect in any way shape or form unless it is something you can actually give yourself.

This is also the reason I have never EVER once got into it with you before is because you are patient, use your brain, and don't bull people. You are also not even the slightest degree pretentious which is a very rare find around here. Everything you have said in this thread has been right on point and I couldn't agree anymore.
