Well, don't bother with it. There are no lightpeak based audio interfaces ( yet ). And the rumor is that the MBP will only feature the Dual core Sandy Bridge CPU. ( so probably only 10-20% increase in CPU power over the current model )
If you really want the new Sandy Bridge MBP and you bought your MBP in the Apple store, return it now. Don't wait for tomorrow, because you got only 4 days to return your unit and get a refund. |
Holiday return policy until jan 8 FTMFW. Just checked. |

Went to RME site few days ago from win xp, clicked on DEALERS link, and got a nice popup that bloodhound trojan was intercepted by my av. Tried from another box - same thing. Try it, see if it is still there. So, there's something to be said about that. |
Which antivirus did you use? Norman and some of the free ones (avg, avast..etc.) are treating some unknown/new scripting as possible threats and are alerting. These will result as false positives. When you run the same computer/folder (or exact file) again with mcafee, f-secure or Norton they don't find anything. of course it could be actual threat, but false positives are very common too. |

Symantec. The infected link launched help center - known vulnerability attempt. Not a false positive. |

As a life long nature nut, in theory I claim to be against 'thing collecting' as pretty much everything I ever own is taken from Mama Earth, quite often using Angolan child miners and one day ends up as refuse.
We have a nice house with a Sony CRT 10 year old tv and I have no need what so ever of a flat screen.
Hippy rant over.
Back on topic - OP - sure you might wait for the new incarnation, but in the end it's worth mentioning some high profile pros are still using old systems with cubase sx (the owner of sample magic for example) and one famous german producer is using Logic from about 2000 on old kit. |

| If it's the same producer I'm thinking about then he is Swiss, not german ;). They do speak german there too though. |

Why the hell do you fanboys always have to dis windows. If you don't know how or want to use it then don't it's your choice. If you don't want bloatware that comes with your pc then download windows from microsoft site and don't install pointless crap that comes with your pc (not windows' fault).
There are many different versions of office. Some of these versions are for corporate use which have features that are useless in home use - don't install them. If you don't know what features you need or want to use then read the installation manual.
XP is outdated compared to newest osx but Win7 isn't and so far Win7 has been great. I only have iMac because of logic. So far I haven't witnessed any godgiven features in my mac that are better than they are in my pc/windows. Both systems are great. There's always room for improvement in both.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As for the topic: If you always keep waiting for better and better you end up losing time and you don't get anything done. Buy what they offer now and I promise it will work just fine for next 2-3 years and by that time there will be more product's that will support the upcoming upgrades and then there's actually reason why to buy better/newer computer. |
I'm extremely well versed in Windows, what I was trying to point out was the difference between Microsoft and Apple's perspectives, Microsoft tries to support everyone so they have tonnes of legacy code in their operating systems where Apple tries to move things forward by getting rid of old tech, I'm not going to deny that I'm a little biased, though :P

As for Pro Users using MBPs, err....last time I checked Apples main customers are people who couldn't even come up with a reason as to why they bought one apart from "it's cool" or "I heard it gets less viruses". Let's not beat around the bush here.
Are they good machines? Yes.
Are they superior? Not even remotely. |
Wow, you are so wrong it's hilarious. The percentage of PRO users on Macs is WAY THE higher than it is on PCs. An extremely high percentage of Apple's market is with friggen nerds who like to do video editing, producing or other creative professions.
Let's not beat around the bush with your veiled Mac hate, the Apple customers you're talking about buy white MacBooks, not MacBook pros, and even still my point is valid, Apple isn't just a software and hardware company, they're a MEDIA company, they SELL music, TV shows and movies and they're obviously not going to get rid of hard drives any time soon until SSDs can hold just as much for a reasonable price.
As I said, Apple is going to put the OS and OS related things on the solid state drive, and all the crap you store on your machine will go on the HDD, this is how they do it in the iMacs if you buy an iMac with a solid state drive in addition to the HDD. |

Genius Bar . Need to know how to change your screen saver or find pesky pictures or can't seem to rotate your picture with preview or even want some help using Itunes advanced features.
suck it PC users. !!!!
Personally, a mac is not just about the computer. it is a statement. When someone walks into your studio and sees 2 mac pros, they know you are for reelz. I have no idea how you guys even get anything done on pc without Ilife. I suppose for me , it is a lifestyle, not a computer.Without having so say a word, people know I am an artist.
Macs are for idiots and that suits me well. The more idiot proofing the better. I don't see that as a bad thing. The less I need to spend maintaining my machines, the more time I have hanging out in teen chat rooms trying to coax Cute_cindY_69 to show me her . |

| my dad lives 3 months behind. Sort of a philosopher in a way but he just acts like he is living 3 months behind, movies are all cheaper, computers are cheaper. In fact imagine just living 1 year behind. I mean music wasn't worse 1 year ago. PEople managed. You would save so much money. |

So am I. Four times MCITP and 7 times MCTS here (I sound like Booker-T: 5 times WCW champion). I didn't get what you tried to imply but I forgive you. There's way too much demand for legacy support - there's too much old farts as ICT managers, I think microsoft would be glad to stop supporting outdated stuff. I know a company that is still using token ring network :D |

In case nobody has mentioned it, intel won't release lightpeak with fiber until at least 2012. The initial release will be based on cooper cables next year.
And the upcoming sandy bridge cpus are only the low-end models. High-end versions will be released in the end of 2011.
So you can't expect much from the next MBPs. The cool new tech is just not there. And apple is no way an early adapter of new tech anyway. |
