Just finished your set, Nick.

I think you've done a good job and kept it quite trancey although that last bit is blatantly not hardstyle :p Gone a different way to what I would've had I got it, as I know some older tunes and would've also used some trancier stuff to keep it flowing. Good effort though.

Ian's mix:
I agree with pozz. The last part was pretty good. The rest was decent, but it didn't really make me hungry for more, like the last part did. The DnB track was nice :)

zip:
This was a pleasant surprise :)
I've earlier only been exposed to very (imo) hardstyle akin to the ones in qlimax "trailers". This mix was very varied, and so it didn't bore me as easily as the trailers or jumpstyle vids I've seen do. Great effort :)

good job tez. the tracks were fairly obvious, but that is what made this great to listen to. I've not listened to most of this stuff for quite a long while so it was nice to get reacquainted.

35 mins happens to the best of us:p

Thanks for listening, Ian. I specifically made sure it was Hardstyle and not Hard Trance. And of course you would have done something different with older tunes, you probably have a little experience with it. :p As far as the last track is concerned, you don't think that psy track is brimming with Hardstyle concepts? Yeah it's not 100% Hardstyle but it sure reminds me of it.

Thanks for the review, netroM. Hope it was hard enough for ya :disbelief

That's one of the things I tried to avoid, is to make it too deep and brooding, as I felt some of the tracks from Straight On Black were more Hard Trance than Hardstyle. It was difficult to draw the line, because some of those tracks were super cool. I just didn't want there to be two hard trance mixes this round. :p

Rodri Santos, you suggested this genre, why haven't you listened yet?

That's fair enough too. I do think the Straight On Black stuff is definitely hardstyle although it's definitely darker and techier territory. I just have a personal preference for this over the more anthemic style which most hardstyle seems to fall into these days.
I think Rodri's too busy playing prog/tech trance. :p

Thanks for listening Jay. I guess the problem I had around 35 mins was mixing the FSOL track which is in 3/4 time into 6 Underground in 4/4. The result was pretty whack, didn't work as well as I'd have liked.

I bet Evanti - What a Rush would have been perfect after Donkey Rollers - The Fusion of Sound, but alas, as the only track I truly adored on that label, it had already been played in this challenge once before. (Round 2, Jasper)
Sand Leaper
Here's my ambient mix. I didn't feel like doing anything too fancy this time, as I have another mix in the pipeline that's gonna take some proper chances and try something completely new. This will simply be a straight forward mix of some great summery tunes that I felt like mixing due to the utterly grey and dull weather outside.

Sand Leaper - A Slight Breeze 050211

Schizophrenia - Schizophrenia
The Irresistible Force - Lotus Position
Gel-Sol - As Far As Eye Can See
Yoshinori Sunahara - The Good Timing Of The World Of Love Song
Apiento & Co. - Under Open Skies
Aosuke - At The Shore
Wang Fan - Xuanzhuan De Tuoluonidi
Rob Theakston - I Am Waiting For You To Stop Being Mad At Me (Christopher Bissonnette Remix)
Gustavo Lamas - Embrollo
Swimmingpool - Left Version
Kayot - One Night On Cuba
Savath+Savalas - Binoculars
Frivolous - The Emoticon Don (Movimento Primo)
Doctor Rockit - Café De Flore
Doves - Firesuite

i'll check the ambient mix out too, but no way am i listening to some of the whack genres you guys picked this time:p
Rodri Santos
Calm down Zip i've listened the mix but not in all it's duration, i am very very busy but i hope i can listen to it tomorrow in the morning in it's full duration and write a judgement ;) i see you made your way out of the "real" Hardstyle, i expected that and i like it :p

About the rest of the mixes i'll try to listen to all of them in the following weeks, i've some flights that need music :D and my dubstep mix is in progress i am looking for diverse dubstep subgenres and i think it will be ear candy at least.

One thing i've noticed is that i haven't come across a single good dubstep vocal track yet, vocals don't fit on this genre it seems... i'd like to include 1 or 2 vocals on this but haven't found anything worthy yet.

Yeah, it's an absolute bomb. I just wish the breakbeat bit at the end were longer.
