Thanks for the info so far.

It would be on the coast - Beaufort, NC. The gf is fine with it, shes completing her masters at the moment but has already been looking at properties etc over there as soon as I told her.

Haven't told my family yet, but will have to soon. They've always known that with my career aims I would want to move out of the UK at some point.

Just a question, how much is ~ $34k a year to live off in the states? I checked on city-data.com (or something like that) that says living costs in Beaufort NC is 16% below the US average.
MrJiveBoJingles
~$34k will do fine most places in the south. Assuming you don't have kids, outrageous medical bills, or expensive drug habits.

Cheers, at a guess, are we talking enough for confortable living expenses, 2nd hand car and disposable income too?
MrJiveBoJingles
Definitions of "comfort" vary a lot, but you'll definitely be doing better than just scraping by with bare minimum food and housing. I think you could afford a modest used car.

Wow 34k will do you good in the south?

Thats like... poverty level up here. :p

Annoyingly the Mrs is unwelcoming to the idea of me having a Pick-up truck with Freebird on repeat :(

Maybe in Beaufort, NC, but not where I am. $34k only lets people live "comfortably" if you're living in a small town, I wouldn't move across the water for that.

:stongue:

Make sure to get one with a gun rack, too.

Jackson
Chevy or Ford? :p
MrJiveBoJingles
It's a Dodge in the picture, I believe. But you can get whatever you like, as long as it's big. Preferably something that runs on diesel.

That's how we do it out here in real America.

;)
