I take it you've never seen a British trout hatchery.
The rental is only an issue if there's a no water-bed clause and the landlord won't look the other way on zoning issues.

I've heard only legends of their fish-based alliterations.

It's nothing but the basest of anthropological revisionism that the etymology of such alliterations are free from the historical marriage of high-density habitation and industrial fish farming. It was prior to the great fire of London that, after several catastrophic building collapses, these hatcheries were finally outlawed. Ironically, it's because of that fire that their existence was extinguished from the historical record.

Dude, be glad you're moving to NC compared to ty states like Texas or Oklahoma lol When I moved from EU to the states, I would have been so happy to have moved to CA instead of TX :( I had never been to NC before & I was really surprised to see how nice the people are & all the vegetation. Id much rather live there than where I currently live.

Nice ok, wasn't sure if it was someone imitating it or w/e.
Looking at houses to rent, most of them are around the $800p/m mark (not including utilities). That seems really cheap compared to over here, or am I missing a monthly tax i'd have to pay on top?
Yeah, I'm not surprised by that. Beaufort is pretty rural and rural NC cheap (outside of the seafront Outer Banks). I'm no tax expert but I don't think there's any tax that renters pay.
...and yes the womenfolk do enjoy the British accent. My employers keep wanting me to move into sales!
